Monument to the Heroic Martyrs of Tsinghua University

The monument is located on a hill north of the Industrial Hall on the campus of Tsinghua University, adjacent to the Monument to the Three Martyrs of Wei Jie ("March 18 Broken Monument") and the Wen Pavilion. The monument is built on a stone platform of about 42 square meters, sitting north and facing south, the monument is 0.3 meters high, 1.8 meters long and 1.4 meters wide. The stele is a brown boulder, 3.2 meters high, symbolizing the immortality and tenacity of Tsinghua's heroic spirit. The front of the stele is engraved with eight large golden characters: "Sons and Daughters of the Motherland, Heroic Martyrs of Tsinghua". On the north pedestal is inlaid with a black marble surface 1.5 meters high and 1 meter wide, on which is inscribed "The heroic martyrs of Tsinghua who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for national independence and people's liberation are immortal", and the names of 65 martyrs, the time of schooling, the time of birth and the time and place of sacrifice are arranged below.

The 16 heroes added in 1994 were: Wei Jiesan, Shi Di, Deng Weixi, He Maoxun, Yuan Shiruo, Zhang Fengge, Yao Mingda, Qi Xueqi, Wang Hao, Zeng Qingquan, Wu Guoheng, Jiang Wenhuan, Huang Jingwu, Chen Yuekai, Wan Jiayi, and Chen Yutao.

In 2004, 8 new heroes were added: Gu Heng, Yue Dai, Wang Jianlan, Xie Shukui, Wu Xinzhi, Li Nintao, Zhong Qingyuan, and Yang Chao.

In 2019, the "Tsinghua Heroic Martyrs Monument" was repaired again, and the "Tsinghua Heroic Martyrs" was renewed, expanding the list of Tsinghua Heroic Martyrs on the inscription to 65 people. Due to the limitations of the sources of information and the need for continuous in-depth examination of many historical materials, the deeds of some heroic martyrs are still very incomplete, and some heroic martyrs may be omitted and left to be enriched and supplemented in the future.

From the "9.18" incident that shocked China and foreign countries to the "12.9" movement to resist Japan and save the country, from the "July 7" incident to the Anhui Incident, countless heroic martyrs have spent their lives fighting for national independence, national liberation, and the people's happiness, and even sacrificed their precious lives. Their glorious life represents the persistent pursuit of China's advanced intellectuals, shows the heroic feelings of standing up at a time of national peril and sacrificing their lives for righteousness, and interprets the glorious tradition of patriotic dedication with youth and blood.
