This moth is a worldwide quarantine pest, and customs in various countries pay great attention to detecting this pest when quarantineing animals and plants. The invasion of the American white moth is a biological disaster for the invading country. It mainly feeds on the leaves of plants, and never picky eaters, in addition to the favorite apple leaves, peach leaves, persimmon leaves, pear tree leaves and other fruit leaves, but also eat the leaves of roadside green trees, such as woolly poplar and so on.
In addition, for crop crops, the American white moth is also not rejected. Cabbage, soybeans, peanuts, radishes, etc., the American white moth eats whatever it wants. Some American white moths even eat tobacco. When the American white moth invaded, it could eat an orchard overnight without leaving a single leaf.
Being able to eat and not being picky eaters is the first terrible thing about the American white moth.
The second terrible thing is that the American white moth breeds amazingly, a female American white moth, can lay up to 2200 eggs at a time, which is simply a catastrophic reproduction. When the American white moth breeds eggs on the leaves, the entire leaf is densely packed with white moth eggs. Such leaves could not be left at all, and must be burned by fire, otherwise the whole forest would be eaten clean by the newly bred American white moths the following year.
In 2008, the American white moth invaded our country. At that time, the author's village was full of calls to catch the eggs of the American white moth. As long as the leaves with American white moth eggs are found, they can be plucked and sold to the relevant departments for disposal by specialized personnel. A pound of leaves with American white moth eggs seems to be 2 cents. At that time, many adults and children in the village went to the forest to pick leaves laid by American white moths, sometimes picking more than 100 pounds a day.
Over the years, there may be less leaf picking, and more drone spraying to prevent and control, the effect is quite OK.
Even so, the invasion of the American white moth has also caused great losses to our agricultural production and tourism greening. It can be seen that the prevention and control of alien biological invasions cannot be solved by saying "how much to eat". The combination of prevention and control should also be based on prevention, and should not be taken lightly.
