It's news that a replica of the Batmobile will be auctioned off, based on two older versions of Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns, released in 1989 and 1992, respectively.
The car in the film uses a Chevrolet Impala chassis and fiberglass body, which is easy for replica makers to do, rather than repurposing an abandoned concept car (like the 1960s Batman TV series) or building a complete car from scratch (like the inverted float in 2005's Batman Begins).
This replica was made in the UK, so unlike the movie Batmobile, it's driving on the right. The chassis came from the 1965 Ford Mustang, but the engine was a Chevrolet 5.7-liter V8 engine with 380 horsepower.
The car was built more than a decade ago for British businessman Phil Garlick, who wanted to rent it out for an event. Garrick reportedly spent more than $200,000 to build the car. The Batmobile was later owned by the London Motor Museum, which reportedly closed in 2018 after a dispute with local council over more than $800,000 in unpaid taxes.
While delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, a new Batman movie is coming out — meaning there's going to be a new Batmobile. Unlike previous versions of the futuristic look, Batman will feature a Batmobile with an American muscle car.
Of course, only time will tell if the new version is like Tim Burton's.
Looking forward to the release of the new version of Batman and Batmobile!
