It is reported that on November 1, Dr. Zuo Mingmao fell ill with a fever when he appeared in court for trial, and it is said that the prison cell leaked rain, causing Dr. Zuo Mingmao to fall ill and have a fever in the rain. However, the family has been authorized to send medicine to Dr. Zuo Mingmao. The lawyer who defended Dr. Zuo Mingmao also confirmed that Dr. Zuo Mingmao was indeed ill and had a fever.
On 1 February, Dr. Zuo Mingmao was arrested at his home and later released under house arrest, but was arrested again after he released information to the public on behalf of the NLD. Up to now, Dr. Zuo Mingmao has faced prosecution under Regulation 505(B) of the Criminal Law, the Regulations of the Natural Disaster Affairs Management Law, and the relevant regulations of the Anti-Corruption Law. On 1 November, the case was heard by a special court established within the prison.
Dr. Mingmao Zuo, Governor of Mandalay, is one of the senior leaders of the NLD Central Committee, not only serving as governor of Mandalay, but also as vice chairman and spokesman of NLD. Previously, President U Win Myint and Dr. Thay Myung Moo were widely regarded as Aung San Suu Kyi's right-hand men.
In March 2018, the two were simultaneously named NLD's number two person, behind Aung San Suu Kyi. Due to constitutional restrictions, Senior Minister Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Wen Min could not participate in the activities of the NLD, so Dr. Zo Ming Mao played a leading role in the NLD.
In the 1990 general election, Dr. Zuo Mingmao won the election to become a people's parliament, but the military government at that time did not transfer power. Because Dr. Zuo Mingmao was involved in national politics, the junta held him in prison from November 1990 to February 2009. During this time, he had problems with his physical health. As a precaution, Dr. Zoemoto was tested for cancer or neurological problems.
After his release in 2009, Dr. Zo became a member of the NLD Central Executive Committee and was elected to parliament in three general elections in 1990, 2012 and 2015. In the 2012 by-election, Dr. Zo Mingmao ran for the Kyaukpo Dong town people's councillor constituency and won the election as a people's congressman. In the 2015 general election, Dr. Zo Mingmao ran for election in Amarabura Township District, winning the election as a provincial councillor of Mandalay and later elected as governor of Mandalay.
Although Dr. Zuo Mingmao holds an important job, he suffers from blood cancer, hypertension and other diseases and has traveled to Thailand many times for treatment.
It is understood that due to blood cancer, Mandalay Governor Dr. Zuo Mingmao began to go to the hospital in Bangkok, Thailand for treatment at the end of October 2019. During this period, Dr. Zuo Mingmao's position as governor was temporarily replaced by Ng Sanhão. At the same time, Dr. Zuo Mingmao also guided the anti-epidemic work of the Mandalay provincial government through the Network. On 21 May 2020, Dr. Zuo Mingmao, governor of Mandalay who was treated in Thailand, returned to Mandalay for home isolation. After that, it was put into the work of the government.
Previously, some netizens posted pictures saying that in 2019, Dr. Zuo Mingmao was still a black hair, but when he returned to Myanmar to work in 2020, he already had a white hair.
