The 2021 China International Education Exhibition (Beijing Station), sponsored by the China Education Association for International Exchange, was recently held, with nearly 300 colleges and universities from more than 20 countries and regions such as the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Belgium, Canada, and Germany participating in the exhibition, which is also the first offline appearance of the education exhibition since the epidemic.
The first Sino-foreign cooperative school running exhibition area was set up
At 10:00 a.m. on October 23, the Beijing National Convention Center, the booth of Wisconsin State University Stott attracted many Chinese institutions seeking cooperation, and the exhibition board about "Zhengzhou University and the University of Wisconsin Stott cooperated to hold a mechanical engineering undergraduate education project" aroused the interest of many visitors, and the question focused on whether to replicate a similar cooperation model.
"There are two types of cooperation methods, one is undergraduate, the other is high school..." Since the beginning, the introduction of admissions officer Yang Jingfeng has not been interrupted. Founded in 1958, Zhangwu County Senior High School in Liaoning Province is one of the institutions that hope to cooperate, and the two staff members of the school are not only fully prepared, bringing a brief introduction stamped with the official seal of the school, but also reached an intention to further cooperate on the spot after consulting and exchanging with Yang Jingfeng.
The bustle of the booth at Wisconsin State University Stott can be described as a microcosm of the welcome of Sino-foreign cooperative schools and project achievements exhibition area, which although the exhibition area is the first time in more than 20 consecutive years that the China International Education Exhibition has been held, it has attracted much attention at the education exhibition site.
Indeed, "studying abroad" is becoming the choice of more and more students. In front of the booth of Nanjing University of Communication, Ms. Ding is consulting her children about art learning. "My kids have been in art groups since they were young, and the chorus and flute are good. To go to the education exhibition to see the art projects, is to give children one more choice to go to school. Ms. Ding said her main concerns focused on tuition fees, the timing of school exams and which way to conduct interviews.
According to Yang Qing, the representative of Nanjing College of Communications who was in charge of consultation at the scene, the college currently offers the Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate education program, the international undergraduate 2+2/3 joint course project and the international undergraduate preparatory 1+3/4 (South Korea) project, which are relatively suitable for the specific situation of Ms. Ding's children.
"The first project was approved this year, and the enrollment plan is 120, participating in the college entrance examination. The latter two programs used to recruit 300 students a year, but due to the impact of the epidemic, this year has declined slightly, but overall it is still good. Yang Qing said.
Wang Yongli, secretary general of the China Education Association for International Exchange, said that compared with studying abroad, Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools in the future is a very important direction, which can make foreign high-quality educational resources land and take root in China.
Foreign institutions help cooperation
As the autumn semester of 2021 approaches, under the background of the still severe global COVID-19 situation, the Ministry of Education has issued a message saying that it will continue to support some Sino-foreign cooperatively-run schools and projects, as well as cooperative schools and projects in the mainland (mainland) and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions, through independent enrollment, to alleviate the difficulties of our students not being able to study abroad under the influence of the epidemic.
Domestic students have the need to "not study abroad", and overseas institutions have also actively introduced relevant measures and carried out various forms of educational cooperation with Chinese institutions.
The relevant person in charge of the New Zealand Education International Promotion Agency said in an interview with this reporter that New Zealand universities are increasingly aware of the importance of establishing deeper and more direct partnerships with foreign universities. Sino-Singapore educational cooperation has a history of nearly 20 years, and institutions of the two countries have carried out many cooperative school-running projects and set up a number of cooperatively-run schools. The number of cooperation projects at the undergraduate level and above between the two countries has reached 23, and the number of cooperatively-run schools has increased to 4, reaching a total of 27.
"In order to enable students stranded in China due to travel restrictions to have better learning space and academic support, so far, 5 universities in New Zealand have cooperated with Chinese universities to open 11 learning centers. The establishment of these learning centers allows students to maximize their study abroad experience during the pandemic. While studying online courses with students from the same major, you can also get face-to-face tutoring from teachers from the Learning Center. The person in charge said.
Irish institutions continue to strengthen the contact and cooperation with the relevant departments of education of the Chinese government, as of June 2021 data, There are a total of 96 cooperative educational institutions and projects between China and Ireland, including 32 specialist programs, 54 undergraduate programs, 2 master's programs, 8 cooperative education institutions, most of which provide Chinese students with 3+1, 2+2 learning exchange and degree opportunities at the undergraduate level.
Relevant experts said that due to the impact of the epidemic and changes in the international situation, student mobility and study abroad have been impacted, as a "study abroad without going abroad", Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools has also ushered in a higher degree of popularity than usual.
Enjoy an international education in a different way
Relevant data show that there are more than 2,300 Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run schools and projects approved and operated by the examination and approval authorities nationwide. In general, Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institutions and projects (including specialties) in higher education account for about 90% of the total number of school-running institutions and projects, involving more than 200 majors in 11 disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, and agriculture. The cooperation targets involve more than 800 foreign universities and more than 700 Chinese universities.
The "China Study Abroad Development Report (2020-2021)" jointly researched and compiled by the China Globalization Think Tank (CCG) and the Development Research Institute of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics shows that the current growth rate of The number of Chinese students studying abroad has declined, partly because the development of Sino-foreign cooperative schools is becoming more and more mature, and high-quality international education can be enjoyed without going abroad. At the same time, the restrictions on access under the epidemic have made "studying abroad" more popular in Sino-foreign cooperative schools.
At the education exhibition, Chang'an Dublin International Transportation Institute of Chang'an University attracted many visitors to stop. According to Wang Anran, the representative of the participating universities, the college is a non-independent legal person Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution jointly organized by Chang'an University and University College Dublin in Ireland, which is a second-level college of Chang'an University, and was approved by the Ministry of Education to carry out undergraduate education in April 2020. The three Sino-foreign cooperative education majors carried out by the college are all 4-year undergraduate majors, and all three majors have been selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate majors.
"At present, we are implementing the '4+0' dual-enrollment, dual-degree, bilingual teaching joint training model, so that students can share the high-quality teaching resources of the two schools, have both foreign international technologies, and realize 'no going abroad' study abroad." Wang Anran said.
"If you enjoy foreign high-quality educational resources in China, you still want your children to study in China." Mr. Wang pointed to the "70% of the core professional courses in the introduction book of Chang'an Dublin International Transport Institute of Chang'an University in Ireland" in the introduction book, saying, "From the perspective of acquiring knowledge, this is not much different from studying abroad." Especially under the epidemic situation, I must choose to study in China. ”
Wu Li (pseudonym), who set her sights on NYU Shanghai, and Mr. Wang held the same view, "Although they were originally going to study abroad, the overseas epidemic situation is not optimistic, and the quality of education in Domestic Sino-foreign cooperatively-run schools is getting higher and higher, so they have changed their plans."
