Influencer bloggers' career choices can face backlash because people don't usually agree with this option outside of social media.
Once bloggers gain a large number of followers, they may feel limited on what they can post.
Studies have shown that those who only focus on social comparisons (such as many influencer bloggers) may suffer adverse effects, such as anxiety.
Influencer bloggers in social media have a huge impact on online culture. They are often seen as role models by their fans. Influencer bloggers can promote a particular lifestyle, various products and brands on their social media pages, as well as publish their own original content.
Almost every piece of content posted by influencer bloggers is carefully designed to make their image look more perfect. But there are some influencers who choose to "buck the trend" by talking openly about their mental health issues and the things that have recently exhausted them.
Many people on social media want to be their favorite bloggers on TikTok, Weibo, B-site, and other platforms. In an interview, Toronto actor and influencer Jamie Bloch discusses why people want to be influencers:
Some people find it very appealing to be an influencer; in their impression, influencers can get free things, can go to cool places, and can meet well-known people.
What they don't understand, however, is that it's a job, not an excuse to give up school or everyday life, pursue fun, travel, or live a fascinating life, all of which, often isn't reality. People like to be famous without realizing the responsibilities or pressures that come with it. ”
Outside of social media, influencer bloggers may also be unhappy with their career choices, as their career choices are often not taken seriously. In an interview, fitness guru Isabella Mazerolle explained that she just sees social media as a way to make money:
"Personally, I never wanted to make money by being an 'influencer' before. I've always wanted to start a business and then make myself famous. And that's exactly what happened. As a result, I'm presenting more products and services online than myself. ”
Bloch believes that once bloggers have gathered a large number of fans on their platform, they usually start to feel limited about what they can create:
Influencers can sometimes be seen as a product. In a world dominated by "perfect moments," it's easy to lose authenticity, which allows influencers to fit in with a brand, even if they're not a good fit in themselves. , or in a way that doesn't really reflect who they are and what they value.
While many people make their lives more transparent on the platform, there are a few things that make influencer bloggers cautious about posting them – no matter how true. The online world can be really overwhelming and exhausting at times.
If you don't know how to take a break from social media for a while, it's hard for you to continue to be successful because no one can be 'online' forever. ”
Social media can affect users' self-esteem, self-confidence, and mental health. Research has also shown that social comparisons lead to cognitive inefficiency, which requires a lot of mental resources to deal with.
Those who focus only on social comparisons may be adversely affected, including decreased satisfaction with appearance, low self-evaluation, higher negative emotions, insecurities, and anxiety. Since influencer bloggers have invested their entire lives and careers in social media, many have experienced these negative effects.
In addition, users on social media often make upward social comparisons, which can have a negative impact on mental health. This is especially true for influencer bloggers, who always focus on influencer bloggers with more followers and compare themselves to them.
Mazerol explains:
"When people analyze everything you say and post, you feel violated. I tried not to censor myself and was as open as possible, but it was inevitable that I would draw criticism.
Sometimes, when everyone has their own opinion, it's hard not to go to the heart! Over time, I think this will definitely take a toll on a person's mental health, especially if you've experienced cyberbullying. ”
