Shenzhen Special Economic Zone News (reporter Dou Yanwen) reporter learned from the Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center Station yesterday that Shenzhen took the lead in carrying out water ecological monitoring and evaluation work in China, and the preliminary monitoring results showed that the overall aquatic ecosystem of Shenzhen rivers has gradually improved, aquatic biodiversity has improved, and extinct Tang fish and endangered exotic carp have been found in the Wild in the Dapeng Bay Basin.

It is reported that the Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center Station took the lead in carrying out urban water ecological monitoring and evaluation in the national ecological environment system in August 2019. Urban water ecological monitoring and evaluation work focuses on the environmental management needs of key river basins, comprehensively and objectively reflects the quality of urban water ecological environment, and on the basis of the monitoring of conventional physical and chemical indicators of surface water, explores the establishment of a comprehensive evaluation system for surface water environmental quality, accurately reflects the governance effectiveness of major rivers and lake reservoirs and the people's true feelings about the environmental quality of water bodies.

According to the principles of consistency, representativeness, integrity and economy of water ecological monitoring, the Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center has set up a total of 86 monitoring points in the city, covering major rivers, drinking water sources and landscape lakes. Considering the integrity of aquatic ecosystems, monitoring indicators cover habitats, benthic organisms, algae, phytoplankton, zooplankton, fish and aquatic plants. At the same time, according to the hydrological characteristics of Shenzhen, the two representative seasons of summer and autumn are selected, and one sampling monitoring is carried out each.

At present, Shenzhen water ecological monitoring and evaluation has completed two on-site sampling work, and laboratory analysis and identification are underway. According to the preliminary monitoring results, the river water ecosystem of Shenzhen has gradually improved from west to east, and the aquatic biodiversity has also increased, and the indicator species of clean rivers in the eastern Pingshan River has been collected. At the same time, tang fish that have become extinct in the wild and exotic carp listed in the Red Book of Endangered Animals of China have been found in the Dapeng Bay Basin.

The person in charge of the Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center Station said that with the continuous increase in water environment governance, the quality of the water environment in Shenzhen has been greatly improved, and the status of the water ecosystem is being restored.
