Rome, 31 Oct (Xinhua) -- On 30 October, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Rome.
Wang Yi said that over the past year, under the personal deployment and command of President Xi Jinping, the people's war against the epidemic has been waged Chinese and people, and major strategic achievements have been achieved. While doing its own thing well, China has always adhered to the concept of a community of human health, overcome its own difficulties at the time when the world is most urgently needed, carried out the largest emergency humanitarian action since the founding of New China, helped all countries solve their urgent needs, gave full play to China's advantages, demonstrated China's responsibility, and made China's contribution. As the central body of the global fight against the epidemic, China attaches great importance to the role of WHO and is willing to strengthen cooperation in promoting the fair distribution of vaccines, the research and development of new coronavirus drugs, and supporting African countries in fighting the epidemic, so as to contribute positive energy to global anti-epidemic cooperation.
Wang Yi said that unity is the most powerful weapon in the fight against the epidemic. The global fight against the epidemic is a major test of multilateralism, and it is hoped that WHO will adhere to a scientific attitude, put people's life safety and physical health first, adhere to solidarity and cooperation, and oppose "politicization", "labeling" and "stigmatization" through the fight against the epidemic.
Wang Yi stressed that the global traceability of the virus should uphold an objective, scientific and responsible attitude, should be vigilant against all kinds of political speculation, and should treat all member states equally and earnestly respect the sovereignty of all countries. China is willing to use this as a basis to discuss future cooperation with WHO.
Tedros said that the epidemic is the public enemy of the world. WHO appreciates China's spirit of solidarity in providing help and support to countries in fighting the epidemic, and appreciates China's support and participation in the IMPLEMENTATION plan for the COVID-19 vaccine and its positive contribution to the fair distribution of vaccines. WHO has always adhered to principles, not succumbed to external political pressure, resolutely opposed the "throwing of the pot" to blame, resolutely resisted the "politicization" of the fight against the epidemic, and will continue to uphold a scientific attitude to carry out virus traceability research.
Rome, 31 Oct (Xinhua) -- On 30 October, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with World Trade Organization Director-General Ivira in Rome.
Wang Yi congratulated Ywera on becoming the first Director-General of African descent of the WTO, saying that this marked the strengthening of the strength of developing countries in the international arena, and China would fully support the Director-General in his performance of his duties.
Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech today at the first phase of the G20 Rome Summit, stressing the need to safeguard the multilateral trading system with the WTO as the core and promote the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference to achieve positive results. This fully reflects the great importance that China attaches to the role of the WTO. This year marks the 20th anniversary of China's accession to the WTO. China is willing to work with all parties to jointly safeguard the authority and effectiveness of the WTO, promote the liberalization and facilitation of global trade and investment, and consolidate the cornerstone of global trade.
Ivira said that I listened to President Xi Jinping's important speech at the scene and was deeply encouraged. China's accession to the WTO is of great significance, and the WTO attaches great importance to China's important influence and leading role, and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China, especially in the holding of the 12th Ministerial Conference.
Wang Yi said that China is the world's largest developing country, and China will always belong to the group of developing countries politically and will firmly defend the common interests of developing countries. At the same time, China has never shied away from its international responsibilities. Whether it is the reduction of the overall tariff level or the actual enjoyment of "special and differential treatment", China has assumed obligations that go far beyond the commitments of WTO accession. China has not competed with developing countries for resources in the past, at present and will not compete with developing countries, and on the basis of adhering to the overall positioning of developing countries, we will continue to assume responsibilities and obligations commensurate with our own level of development and make greater contributions to the realization of common development.
