This is a staghorn coral photographed off The Island of Demarcation (pictured on September 28). Demarcation Island is located in Lingshui Li Autonomous County, Hainan, and its surrounding marine ecosystem is a typical coral reef ecosystem. Before the development of the demarcation island, the seabed corals were seriously damaged due to illegal mining, and the seabed ecology was seriously damaged. In order to effectively restore the seabed ecology of the sea area around Demarcation Island, the Hainan Demarcation Island Tourism Zone has cooperated with the Hainan Academy of Oceanography and Fisheries Academy of Sciences to carry out coral conservation work since 2004, implementing marine ecological restoration projects such as coral transplantation, driving and absorbing surrounding fishermen to work in scenic spots, and reducing the harm caused by fishing boats to marine ecology. After more than ten years of protection, the coral coverage rate in the tourist area of demarcation island has reached 34%, the coral coverage rate in some shallow water areas has reached 40%-50%, and the number of marine life has gradually increased.
