The fragmentation mentioned here is not about the film quality of "Shocking the World", but the first feeling after watching the movie. What a fragmented land it must be to produce such a fragmented film.
Worlds of Shock is a Yugoslav war-themed film released on February 2, 1996, which was the first place to inflame me, because, if I remember correctly, the Civil War in Bosnia and Herzegovina was officially declared in November 1995 under the mediation of all parties. So more than three months later, the film, which reflects the racial conflict during the Civil War, was officially released. Last year, in 2018, twenty-three years after the ceasefire of the Bosnian war, when I stepped into Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the bullet holes on both sides of the road were still vividly visible. So a movie that was released more than three months after the armistice...

Ponder the horror.
The film is very sharp, without the slightest drag, which is probably related to director Boro Draskovic's consistent style, typical Of Yugoslavian images, grabbing an insignificant scene in the grand war scene as the main line of the story, while hiding a number of meaningful details, some even with a little magical flavor. Seeing the big with the small, the skill is extraordinary.
Briefly describe the background of the movie.
In June 1991, the former Yugoslavia began to disintegrate. In the Bosnia and Herzegovina region (Bosnia and Herzegovina for short), the three main ethnic groups of Muslims, Serbs and Croats have serious differences over the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina:
The Mu advocated independence from the former Yugoslavia and the establishment of a unified centralized state;
Croats also advocated independence, but wanted a loosely federated state;
The Serbs, on the other hand, were adamantly opposed to independence and demanded their incorporation into Serbia;
Under the impetus of external forces, the tripartite talks can not reach a consensus, and the problems that the tongue cannot solve have to rely on the teeth.
On 3 March 1992, the Bosnian Parliament formally declared the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina against the opposition of Serb parliamentarians.
On 6-7 April, the European Community and the United States recognized it one after another.
The Serbs immediately declared the establishment of the "Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina" and their independence from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The rapid escalation of contradictions between the three main ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina led to the outbreak of the Bosnian War. It was the largest local war in all of Europe since the end of World War II, and it lasted for four years. More than 300,000 troops were involved in the war on both sides, 278,000 of The more than 4.3 million people in Bosnia and Herzegovina died, more than 2 million people became refugees, and more than 85% of the country's economic facilities were destroyed, with direct economic losses of more than 45 billion US dollars. Once again, the Balkan powder keg was set on fire ...
In November 1995, under the auspices of the United States, the leaders of the Yugoslav Federation, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina signed the Dayton Peace Agreement on Bosnia and Herzegovina, ending the Bosnian War.
In such a tragic war, all the encounters of the newlyweds Duma (Serbs) and Anna (Croats) and their surrounding relatives and friends are the main storyline of the whole film. Some people are living in a foreign land, some people are dead on the street, some people are secretly alive, and the hero and heroine of the film have experienced hardships, physical and mental trauma, and finally although they have a life, if you recall the golden boy and jade girl who wandered in love at the beginning of the film, it may feel like more than a sigh, it is simply like a world away.
To be honest, probably because the post-war conditions are simple, the film shooting is not so exquisite, and the location and props are extremely simple on the opposite side of the incomparably real. However, the master is the master, such an embarrassing environment, in fact, is more of a test of the director's skill, especially the metaphors and irony he is good at are played to the fullest.
From the beginning to the end of the film, there is a white peacock flying around, the film explains that this is Anna's pet, but under the scene of gunfire, the appearance of such a big bird has become the number three person, and its series of encounters reflect the stupidity and ferocity of human beings from the perspective of a bystander.
In the ruins of the broken wall, the two people who were fighting and confronting each other actually took off their hats and greeted each other, nodded and smiled. It turned out that the two had been close friends before the war, but at this time they were forced to fight each other. Suppose we put ourselves in the shoes of another person and think about what a shocking and helpless fate it would be for your day-to-day partners, colleagues, neighbors, and you to cross over here.
Anna and her girlfriend were raped, and the mob placed her daughter in the house and forced her to witness the whole process of her mother's ravaging, and the frightened little girl could never speak. The very concise shots have a very strong impact, and the extinction of humanity brought about by the war is fully revealed.
After being injured, Duma encounters three crazy women in the rubble. While bandaging his wounds, they casually fed him with dead flesh and warmly invited Duma to share it. Seemingly absurd scenes at this moment will make people feel that it is not so difficult to understand, and people lament that the destructive power of war is indeed the greatest destruction of human nature.
Anna's father was forced to go to battle with her people, while the mother and daughter watched a propaganda film about world peace at home. The father returned home with his injured head covered, covered in blood, and the mother and daughter panicked, while the TV propaganda film of the children's smiling faces, cheerful amusement parks, and pleasant music reminded people of what the so-called real world elsewhere was like.
Anna returns home with a half-cut of bread that she bought at a high price (the other half was given to the woman who snatched the bread with her), the home has been blown into ruins, and her parents are unfortunately killed. The burning fire mercilessly devoured the once warm home, while also mercilessly biting Anna's heart.
At the end of the film, Anna is left alone in the house, and a team of Serb armed people break into it and share a room. After the initial panic, one of the team members was ordered to teach Anna how to shoot, and after Anna pulled the trigger, the captain laughed and said, "You have broken the ceasefire agreement." "As we all know, the three sides of Bosnia and Herzegovina have reached more than 10 ceasefire agreements under the mediation of the international community, but all of them have been unjustifiably undermined by all parties for various reasons. This historical fact was told by the director through such a black humor. The captain was smiling throughout, and the team members were just as indifferent and accustomed to nothing after Anna's shooting. The smile that may seem harmless to people and animals in a different scene seems to be full of great irony at this time.
And so on, and the film abounds.
So much so that when I saw the end, I went from shock at the beginning, to uncomfortable, to indifferent, and seemed to become more and more numb and fragmented. The director successfully told everything he wanted to tell us with the lens in his hand.
It's a good movie.
