Zhengzhou, 7 Nov (China News Service) -- On 7 November, the fifth batch of Chinese peacekeeping infantry battalions going to South Sudan (Juba) was established and held an oath-taking meeting. At the scene of the conference, 700 peacekeepers wearing blue berets were solemnly groomed and collectively sworn.

According to reports, the fifth batch of peacekeeping infantry battalions was mainly formed by a brigade of the Army's 83rd Group Army.

Duan Jiehui, political commissar of the brigade, said that since participating in the first batch of peacekeeping infantry battalions in 2015, the brigade and its predecessor units have formed (participated in) three peacekeeping infantry battalions, which is the third batch of peacekeeping infantry battalions based on the brigade in 2016, and the peacekeeping infantry battalion has been established again after a year.

It is reported that 129 people in this peacekeeping infantry battalion have peacekeeping experience, 110 people have participated in the past batch of peacekeeping infantry battalions, and a 13-person female infantry squad has been assigned, of which 12 have a college degree or above, each of them can be good at literature and martial arts, and everyone has a unique skill.

The fifth batch of Chinese peacekeeping infantry battalions to South Sudan (Juba) is different from the previous infantry battalions, it will no longer belong to the southern theater of UNMISS, and will be assigned to the UNSUSIL regional protection force, and the tasks entrusted by the United Nations have also increased from the previous 11 to 14, and the importance, complexity and danger of the tasks have increased than before.

Guo Meng, commander of the battalion, introduced that since the preparation of the group, they have always paid close attention to the changes in the situation in South Sudan, carried out a three-month pre-departure intensive training, successively completed common courses, professional skills, command and group operations and tactical training, and focused on anti-riot operations, patrols in weapons forbidden areas, the establishment of checkpoints and other operational ability exercises, and all of them passed the assessment of their superiors, and now have the ability to independently carry out combat tasks after going abroad.

From the 12th of this month, the battalion will fly from Xinzheng International Airport in Henan Province in four un chartered united Nations planes to the mission area for a one-year peacekeeping mission. (End)
