A few days ago, the Changzhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau intercepted 9 kinds of harmful organisms such as the Star White Snow Lantern Moth during the on-site quarantine of a batch of cotton from the United States, which is the first time that the Changzhou port has intercepted nearly ten kinds of harmful organisms in the cotton imported into the United States at one time, which is also relatively rare in the national port of entry.
The cotton shipment totaled 98 tons in 10 TEUs. When the Changzhou inspection and quarantine personnel opened the box for quarantine of the goods, a large number of pests were found in some cotton bags. In order to prevent the spread of the epidemic, the on-site quarantine personnel closed all containers and carried out quarantine treatment in accordance with inspection and quarantine laws and regulations. After the processing was completed, the box was dug up again for inspection, and 9 kinds of pests such as the Star Snow Lantern Moth and the Red Stone Valley Thief were intercepted in the batch of goods, and the inspection and quarantine personnel took samples and destroyed the dead insect carcasses.
It is understood that the Star White Lantern Moth is a genus of Lepidoptera, Lamp Moth Family, and Star Snow Lantern Moth. In addition to harming corn, it also harms legumes, cruciferous, solanaceous crops, such as larvae, harming leaves, eating leaves into missing or holes, making the leaf surface appear dry and yellow spots, and eating the leaves in severe cases.
