On October 27th, the "Fast and Slow • 2020 Pictorial Cover Project" co-sponsored by the Art Museum of The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and the Jiangsu Phoenix Fine Arts Publishing House and Pictorial Art Center opened at the Art Museum of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (Changgang Campus).

The exhibition is extended through 12 groups of works designed by Zhang Yunyao, Meng Baishen, Huang Yishan, Huamao First Floor, Han Lei, Xing Wanhe, Shen Qin, Hu Jieming, Hu Yinping, Zhang Xiaotao, Ying Xinxun and Luo Xu for the cover of Pictorial magazine in 2020, in an effort to establish a multidimensional relationship between media production and artistic creation in the exhibition hall in the form of "space reconstruction", and to amplify the pertinence of artists' thinking and expression.

All the works on the exhibition site do not rely on the wall at all, and are composed of six irregular booths and a hanging documentation area.

Directly opposite the exhibition hall, a platform exhibits 10 groups of works: Hu Yinping's lightbox installation "What is your aunt's name?" ", Ying Xinzheng's installation work "Landscape Sanatorium", Huang Yishan's interactive installation work "Anti-epidemic Elimination" Vending Machine, Xing Wanhe's installation work "Nothing", and so on.

These exhibits are derived from the "Pictorial Cover Project" and are featured on the cover and related pages of the journal. Starting from 2019, Pictorial Magazine has set a proposition every year, with 12 issues as a project cycle, and each issue of the magazine invites 1 artist to participate in the cover design of the magazine.

The artist makes a new work to generate a magazine cover for the proposition of the year; in addition to the cover, each issue of the magazine also publishes a creative note and an interview with the artist. At the end of each year's project cycle, Pictorial magazine combs through the creations of 12 artists of that year and generates an exhibition, and finally seeks to publish a book.

The plan of integrating cover expression, generative exhibition and book publishing not only constitutes the operating logic of the "Cover Plan of Pictorial Journal", but also explores the new relationship between art creation and media production in the present.

Starting from last year's "Pictorial 45th Anniversary Cover Project", Pictorial Magazine combined the content production of print paper magazines with the realistic art museum space. Meng Yao, the current editor-in-chief and curator of Pictorial Magazine, hopes to maintain the magazine's value position through the long-term "art slow media" approach.

The "Cover Project" continues to land in the art museum space, so that "Pictorial" as a media identity for the dissemination of art production, added a transformation to the first scene of art production, and still maintained the background of paper media and publishing. Meng Yao said: "For Pictorial Journal, the exhibition is not only an editorial means of media production, but also a way to supplement and revise the existing communication content. ”

On the opening day of the exhibition, a forum on "Art Communication and Media Production" was also held, inviting Yang Xiaoyan, Guan Yuda, Zheng Wen, Zheng Ziyu, Tian Meng, Song Zhenxi, Pei Gang, Zhong Gang, Luo Ying, Yang Canwei and other experts to discuss different content production and communication demands in the mobile Internet era, how art media and art institutions can change themselves, how to shape value and other issues.
