The short-eared owl is one of the most widely distributed owls, with a body length of 38 to 40 cm and a yellowish brown color. The wings are long, the face is prominent, brownish-yellow, and mixed with black-brown feathers. The eyes are golden yellow and the circles of the eyes are dark. The sides of the crown are stained black-brown , the two clusters of ear feathers are short and inconspicuous , and the abdominal feathers are longitudinal.

Short-eared owl often glide close to the ground, silently. They can see things during the day, but fly erratically in the sun and prey on them at night.
