The story of Prometheus stealing tinder in Greek mythology

author:Digital Transformation Workshop

In the long nights, fire brings light to mankind; on cold winter days, fire brings warmth to mankind. Do you know how fire came to earth? Do you know the mythical story about fire? Today we come to know a hero of Greek mythology who took the fire for mankind - Prometheus.

Once upon a time, there was no fire on the ground, and people ate raw things and spent long nights in the dark. There was a god named Prometheus who went to heaven to "steal" fire seeds. He brought fire to the world and made people live happily ever after.

Zeus, the leader of the gods, was very angry when he learned of Prometheus's "theft" of the tinder, and asked the god of fire to lock Prometheus on a cliff, leaving him unable to move or sleep, suffering from wind and rain day and night. Nevertheless, Prometheus simply did not succumb to Zeus. The fierce Zeus sent a fierce vulture to peck at Prometheus's liver every day, and during the day his liver was eaten up, and at night the liver grew back. In this way, the pain endured by Prometheus will never end. Although Prometheus was in pain, he did not give in.

Many years later, Hercules shot the vulture with an arrow and smashed the chain with a stone. Prometheus was finally free.

After the daughter read the story, she asked several questions.

1. Why didn't Zeus give humans fire?

One theory is that the gods believed that man was lowly and should not possess fire and enjoy cooked food. There is also a theory that human beings were created by Prometheus. He also served as a teacher for mankind, teaching them everything that was useful to mankind and could satisfy and be happy. In the same way, people thanked him with love and loyalty and repaid him. But Zeus, the supreme god, demanded that mankind worship him, so that mankind must offer him the best. He slaughtered a cow so that mankind would not be subjected to harsh sacrificial conditions imposed by the gods, but he split the cow in half, in an attempt to deceive the gods, and was unfortunately discovered by Zeus; because Zeus felt deceived, as punishment for him, Zeus refused to give mankind the last item needed to complete their civilization, fire.

2. Why didn't Zeus take the tinder back?

Possible answer: a small tinder doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. But Prometheus's fire-stealing behavior made Zeus feel provoked. Therefore, instead of withdrawing the tinder, he chose to punish Prometheus.
