After so many years, there has been news of Lien Shengwen again because he has once again stood up in Taiwanese politics.
The Kuomintang held a new National Party Congress and approved the appointment of vice chairmen. Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun announced the appointment of Huang Minhui, Xia Liyan, and Lian Shengwen as vice chairmen of the Kuomintang.

Not long ago, Zhu Lilun once again ran for the chairmanship of the Kuomintang, and Lian Shengwen was a strong supporter. Zhu Lilun introduced Lian Shengwen, focusing more on his enthusiasm and familiarity with youth development work and Kuomintang affairs. The young rising stars of the Kuomintang in the early years finally jumped.
In December 2012, Mr. Lien was named "Political Star on the Rise of 2013" by Singapore's Straits Times. It's been almost ten years, and now I don't know whether he counts as a middle-aged or new generation in the Kuomintang?
However, in 2005, when Lien Sang-wen, who was the chairman of the Kuomintang at any time, led a delegation to visit the mainland and embark on a journey of cross-strait peace, he was really young. It was surrounded by the media and competed for interviews.
I also interviewed the Kuomintang on my "peace trip" that year, and I met Lien Shengwen for the first time in Beijing. I remember when I met him in the Great Hall of the People, I traced my business card, and he immediately recognized me, because he often read the articles I wrote, so the name was familiar, and he politely called me "big brother". He is full of expectations for the reunification of cooperation between the KMT and the CPC, and is full of confidence in the two sides of the strait jointly safeguarding peace in the Taiwan Strait.
Lien Shengwen, who is tall and big, and my 1.8 meter tall man has been compared to him. He also introduced me to friends in Hong Kong and said goodbye later. At that time, I decided that Lien Shengwen was a political rising star of the Kuomintang, a young generation of the Kuomintang, and should soon stand out. Later, we also talked a few times in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, I have never seen him stand out.
The old Kuomintang's rotation of seniority has made it difficult for such a middle-aged and new generation in the party to emerge. Sometimes an old Kuomintang man said, "I have been working for many years, and my experience is old enough to do it again!" Or "How many years have I waited, it's my turn." "The younger generation within the Kuomintang, in the face of fierce competition in Taiwan's political ecology, may first encounter not opportunities but to give way to the elderly."
There were also voices of "generational change" in the party, but it did not give rise to a sense of crisis in the century-old party, let alone get much attention. Isn't generational change giving newcomers a chance to stand up? Isn't it to break the cycle of seniority ranking, so that the mesozoic and new generations in the party can qualify by ability and strength? But in the old and decaying Kuomintang, it is not easy to talk about it.
Lien Graduated from Columbia University with a Doctor of Laws degree, His grandfather was former Interior Minister Lian Zhendong, and his father was former Kuomintang Chairman Lien Chan. He belonged to the generation of the Kuomintang, but the opportunity was still rarely taken care of.
On November 26, 2010, Lien Shengwen helped the Kuomintang candidate for the New Taipei City Council, Chen Hongyuan, assist in the election, when he was attacked by gang members in yonghe district, and Lin Zhengwei, nicknamed "Ma Mian", shot him in the face at close range with a 9mm pistol. Fortunately, the bullet was deflected, penetrating the left side of Lian Shengwen's face and shooting at a man surnamed Huang, who was about 29 years old. Lian Shengwen was sent to the National Taiwan University Hospital for emergency treatment, and the bullet did not cause permanent damage. The man surnamed Huang was seriously injured and showed no signs of life before being taken to the hospital.

On February 24, 2014, Lien Announced his candidacy for mayor of Taipei, running for public office for the first time. He led the Chinese Kuomintang primary on April 19, won the party nomination, and officially represented the Kuomintang in the election of Taipei mayor on September 2.
On November 29, 2014, Lien Shengwen lost with a slight margin of 40.82% of the vote. The analysis believes that an important reason for Lien Shengwen's defeat is that he has not been able to get rid of the image of the powerful. In fact, Ke Wenzhe, a surgeon who is also a new star, has an advantage in new media publicity, so that Lian Shengwen lost the election.
On the evening of November 29, 2014, Lien Shengwen, accompanied by his wife, Yishan Tsai, admitted defeat.
Zhu Lilun was re-elected as party chairman, Lian Shengwen came out of the mountains again, and the new generation of that year finally reached the tip of the Kuomintang, whether it was a hero created by the times, or a hero who stood up and reversed the situation, expecting that the Kuomintang led by Zhu Lilun could give an answer.
