In the early 1950s, the cultural relics work in Shangrao City was managed by the Municipal Cultural Center, and in 1975, the Municipal Cultural Center established a cultural relics group to be responsible for the protection, management and collection of cultural relics in the city. In November 1982, the Shangrao Municipal Cultural Relics Management Office was established, which was co-located with the Municipal Cultural Center, and began a comprehensive cultural relics census.
In November 2005, the Shangrao Municipal Cultural Relics Management Office was renamed and the Shangrao City Museum was established.
On July 8, 2016, the Shangrao Urban and Rural Planning Exhibition Hall and the Shangrao Urban Construction Archives "Three Museums in One" project, including the Shangrao City Museum, broke ground and is one of the top ten functional projects in the city. The museum covers an area of 21.35 acres, with a total construction area of about 10,000 square meters and a total investment of more than 100 million yuan.
On December 30, 2016, the General Office of the Shangrao Municipal People's Government issued a notice on printing and distributing the Interim Measures for the Collection of Cultural Relics of the Shangrao City Museum, and the Municipal Museum began to collect cultural relics from all walks of life through donation, acceptance, exchange, loan and purchase. At present, the Municipal Museum has collected more than 3,300 cultural relics, transferred more than 1,500 cultural relics from the Shangrao County and Xinzhou District Museums, and the collection of cultural relics in the Shangrao City Museum reached 5,078 at the time of opening, including 503 precious cultural relics.
At the end of December 2018, the civil engineering project of the Shangrao Museum Project was basically completed and the internal exhibition construction began; on January 29, 2019, the Shangrao City Museum opened for one month for the public.
On May 18, 2019, the Shangrao City Museum was officially opened. As a result, the city has rewritten the history of no municipal library, and the city's cultural and museum undertakings have also achieved a new leap and great improvement from the treasures in the museum to the sharing of society, and Shangrao has a cultural living room in the true sense.

In each exhibition hall, a piece of cultural relics has undergone years of migration and vicissitudes, and has come through the history of money. Today, they tell every visitor at the Shangrao City Museum about the bits and pieces that happened in the ancient land of Shangrao a hundred, a thousand years or even tens of thousands of years ago.
The Shangrao City Museum displays cultural relics, including 7 national first-class cultural relics such as the Yuan Qinghua Mao Uncle Ailian Tu Jade Kettle Spring Vase, the Western Zhou Phoenix Bird Pattern Bronze Plate, the Southern Song Dynasty Qingbai Glazed Cloth Bag and the Monk's New Smoker. The Yushan Museum is located in the center of Yushan City, on the east side of Sanqing Park. Put into use in February 2016, it is a comprehensive museum with a Jiangnan garden-style architectural style.
Yushan Museum covers an area of nearly 10,000 square meters, with a construction area of nearly 7,500 square meters, a greening rate of 32.5%, and 28 ground parking spaces. The exhibition hall covers an area of more than 4,100 square meters.
There are five permanent exhibitions and 1,000 square meters of temporary exhibition halls, including Bing Wei Xi Shui Yu Wei Shan, Huang JiaSi Academician Memorial Hall, Liu Zi Gu Memorial Hall, Inscription Exhibition Hall, Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Hall, etc. It is equipped with multi-functional lecture halls, conference rooms, second classrooms for teenagers, cultural and creative product areas, etc., with complete functions and a beautiful environment.
