【Editor's Note】On the morning of January 2, the 40th anniversary of the publication of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots" was held in Beijing. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the commemorative meeting and delivered an important speech, which attracted the attention of public opinion at home and abroad. Ren Feng, the author of this article, tells the story of Taiwan compatriots' affection for Guangxi Education's generous donation to help poor students from the perspective of a witness, "This call of family affection is the grateful call of students to their relatives in Taiwan, and it is also a true portrayal of the continuous blood and affection of compatriots on both sides of the strait." ”
On March 18, 2017, Meng Tianxiang, vice chairman of taipei guangxi hometown association, and Yan Mengchun, director general, went to Taiping Primary School in Suqiao Town, Yongfu County, Guilin City, and sent a scholarship of 10,000 yuan to the school. The author participated in the whole activity and personally felt the flesh and blood feelings of the relatives on both sides of the strait.
The predecessor of Taiping Primary School was originally a private school. It was founded by the local people and Wei Peiqian Xiangxian, a scholar of the late Qing Dynasty, with personal donations and personally taught. Wei Peiqian died young, and his widow, Mrs. Lee, insisted on using her family property to maintain the school. Wei Peiqian's eldest son, Wei Yongcheng, returned from studying at Sun Yat-sen University in the Soviet Union, mobilized donations from various channels, and turned the school into a village-run primary school to facilitate the reading of villagers in the eight townships. After 1949, the school has been operating normally as a regular village primary school. Educating the children of Taiping Town.
Wei Yongcheng later came to Taiwan, but he still cared about the young generation in Guangxi, and also donated one of his private houses to the Taipei Guangxi Hometown Association, and used the rental income of the house as a scholarship fund to reward students in Taiwan or Guangxi who are both excellent in character and learning.
After the publication of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots" in 1979, cross-strait exchanges and exchanges have gradually increased. In 2005, Huang Yaoyu, then chairman of the Taipei Guangxi Hometown Association, led a delegation of students from Taiwan to Guangxi to visit Guangxi and came to his hometown of Yongfu County to donate computers and teaching supplies to Taiping Primary School. During the visit, it was found that the school building and equipment were in dilapidated. After Huang Yaoyu returned to Taiwan, he proposed to the Hometown Association that, on the basis of the Wei Yongcheng Scholarship Fund, he would mobilize the villagers in Taiwan to raise funds and donate funds to rebuild taiping primary school.
In the process of fundraising, the villagers in Taiwan and Guizhou have generously donated money, and even donated privately stored antique calligraphy and paintings for charity sale, donating a total of 460,000 yuan. Renowned international architect Huang Youliang designed the reconstruction of the school. The county and town governments also strongly supported and added more than 300,000 matching funds. After the new Taiping Primary School was put into use, the Taipei Guangxi Hometown Association set up a permanent "Mr. Wei Yongcheng Memorial Scholarship" at Taiping Primary School, and since 2009, 5,000 yuan has been issued to the school every year to reward students with excellent character and learning.
On March 18, the current principal Wei Youcheng, who accepted the scholarship on behalf of the school, happened to be a descendant of the Wei family in Taiping Village. Wei Youcheng introduced that the teachers who teach in the school are all bachelor's degree or above, as well as graduate degrees, and teachers are at ease to teach in this village-level school through social recruitment.
On the same day, during the school holiday, the students who lived nearby returned to the school after learning the news, greeted their relatives from Taipei with the Etiquette of the Young Pioneers, and were even more reluctant when sending off their relatives, and kept saying: Please Grandpa and Uncles must come back to see!
This call for family affection is a grateful call from the students to their relatives in Taiwan, and it is also a true portrayal of the blood and kinship of compatriots on both sides of the strait. (Ren Feng, Guilin Writers Association)
