At present, the occurrence of red fire ants in Maonan District covers an area of 43,600 mu, involving 9 towns and streets in the south of the city, and the prevention and control situation is very grim. In this regard, the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Maonan District combined with the practical activities of "I do practical things for the masses" and organized the red fire ant training class in a timely manner.
The training class on the 27th invited Professor Zeng Ling, a second-level professor and doctoral supervisor of South China Agricultural University, the former leader of the Guangdong Provincial Red Fire Ant Prevention and Control Expert Group, the expert of the Red Fire Ant Prevention and Control Cooperation Group of the Ministry of Agriculture, the first and second Guangdong Province Public Emergency Management Experts, and the director of the Red Fire Ant Research Center of South China Agricultural University. Professor Zeng Ling conducted systematic training on the source and distribution trend of red fire ants, as well as the identification characteristics, population characteristics, hazard methods, monitoring methods and control techniques of red fire ants. The participants enthusiastically asked questions, and the atmosphere was warm.
At the scene, Zhang Aipeng, deputy mayor of Maonan District, stressed that all towns (streets) should earnestly improve their political positions and further enhance the urgency and sense of responsibility for the prevention and control of red fire ants. At the same time, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau should take the lead in organizing, coordinating, communicating and cooperating with the work, further clarifying the responsibilities of various departments, quickly carrying out dragnet investigation, timely grasping the dynamics of the ant situation, formulating a monitoring and prevention and control work plan, improving the working mechanism, increasing publicity, enhancing the awareness rate of red fire ant identification and emergency prevention and control knowledge, so that the arrangement is in place, the training is in place, and the implementation is in place, and the red fire ant prevention and control work is grasped in detail, forming a pattern of joint grasp and co-management.
It is reported that the red fire ant is a national agricultural, forestry and imported plant quarantine pest, but also recognized as one of the world's 100 most dangerous invasive species, endangering agricultural and forestry crops, destroying ecosystems, stinging people and animals causing burn pain and even shock and death, or causing power line short circuits or facility failures.
