Sichuan root is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, which has the effect of dispelling wind and relieving pain, invigorating blood and qi, and is a commonly used medicine for treating headaches. The "Medical Transmission record" mentions that "headaches must be served with Sichuan root, and each medicine must be used to not heal". Although it is a bit of an exaggeration to say "must", it is enough to show that Sichuan root does have its importance in the treatment of headaches. The multifaceted nature of Sichuan root in the treatment of headache is summarized.
It is a perennial herb with well-developed rhizomes and irregular nodular fist-shaped clumps with a strong aroma. Sichuan root is warm and dry, walking but not keeping, can be scattered, reach the top, into the sea of blood.
The ancients called Sichuan root "qi medicine in the blood", which means that Sichuan root has the effect of scattering, reaching, and relieving depression. The Compendium of Materia Medica describes Chuanqi as follows: "All wind, all qi, all blood, all strain." Supplementing the five labors, strengthening the bones and muscles, nourishing the new blood, searching for liver qi, replenishing liver blood, moisturizing the liver, replenishing the wind deficiency, dry and wet, and opening the qi and depression." A long paragraph of description shows the characteristics of Sichuan Root that both disperse cold and heat, both qi and blood, dry and moist and warm. This property is more pronounced in the treatment of headaches.
