The red-winged crested crested cuckoo has a flattened beak and a large curvature of the mouth peak. It has a long black crown on the head. The crown of the head, the side of the head and the occipital area are also black and have a blue luster. The hind neck is white , forming a semi-collar ring ; the back , shoulders , and wing coverts , and the innermost minor flight feathers are black and metallic green. The waist and tail are black with a dark blue luster.

The red-winged crested crayon is a member of the rhododendron family and is listed in the List of Terrestrial Wild Animals Protected by the State that are beneficial or of important economic and scientific research value.
