Lü Simian, also spelled Chengzhi, was born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, and is a modern historian. From 1926, he was a professor and head of the Department of Chinese Literature and the Department of History at Shanghai Guanghua University. After 1949, he was a professor in the Department of History of East China Normal University.

Mr. Li's life is full of peach and plum, and the literary and historical masters Qian Mu, Zhao Yuanren, Huang Yongnian, etc. are all his students.
