Lü Simian, also spelled Chengzhi, was born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, and is a modern historian. From 1926, he was a professor and head of the Department of Chinese Literature and the Department of History at Shanghai Guanghua University. After 1949, he was a professor in the Department of History of East China Normal University.
Mr. Li's life is full of peach and plum, and the literary and historical masters Qian Mu, Zhao Yuanren, Huang Yongnian, etc. are all his students. Together with Chen Yuan, Chen Yinke, and Qian Mu, he was called the "Four Great Masters of Historiography" and made significant contributions in many fields such as general history, broken dynasty history, and thematic history. He is the author of four histories of the Broken Dynasty: "History of the Pre-Qin Dynasty", "History of the Qin and Han Dynasties", "History of the Southern and Northern Dynasties of the Two Jin Dynasties" and "History of the Five Dynasties of the Sui and Tang Dynasties"; "General History of Ruo cadres"; "Self-study and Application of Vernacular National History", "Fuxing Senior High School Textbook National History" and "Lü Zhu General History of China"; as well as special history: "Chinese Social History" and "Chinese Ethnic History".
Recently, China Pictorial Publishing House launched "Lu Simian's Minimalist Chinese History" (panoramic illustration edition), on the basis of fine editing, adding illustrations, optimizing the version, enriching the illustrations, and trying to present readers with a beautiful, rich and easy-to-read version of the general history.
