"Rear Window" 01: It turns out that Hitchcock's film is so advanced, have you learned?

author:Scorpio's bookworm

Regarding director Hitchcock, I slowly learned about the style of this master of suspense from the Hitchcock zoom in the "Audiovisual Language" course, and "Rear Window" is one of his pinnacle masterpieces.

Long shots

At the beginning of the film, a long shot is used, including techniques such as lifting the shot, lowering the shot, panning the shot, and pushing the shot, which mainly explains the scene of the event and the identity and occupation of the relevant characters. For example, newlyweds, lovers, dancers, piano composers, salesmen, etc., and finally a close-up of the male protagonist (Jeffrey), we see the male protagonist's face sweating, and then pull the camera, explaining the reason for the sweating - the protagonist has broken one leg and is changing the cast, thus sweating in pain. The whole movie shot does not have a single line, but it is clean and concise. The lighting, color grading, and composition of the lens picture are also perfect, and the composition is also very interesting. The movie is called "Rear Window", and the walls of the building in the back scene are open with windows, and our protagonist plays the identity of a voyeur.

Oblique side head-up lens

This is a long-range oblique head-up shot, (from the male perspective) we can see a man and a woman, the man standing, the woman lying on the bed, separated by a wall. Our information cognition of the characters also mainly comes from the window, and we can only see part of the actions of the characters, and some of them are in a hidden state. With the development of the plot narrative, we gradually get more information, but we can't get all the information, or key information. Therefore, this is a restrictive perspective. Later, as our attention and curiosity are drawn, we become more and more curious to know what is going on in the apartment, but the director does not tell you the whole story, thus creating a strong sense of suspense, curiosity, and peeping satisfaction.

Night vision shots

Later, when the time comes to the evening, it is another long-range shot, mainly explaining the environment near the apartment at night and the activities of the characters, such as dancers practicing singing, the noise of street traffic, etc. Personally, I like this photo very much, full of life. In addition to the street lights on the street and the lighting range in the residents' rooms, the other parts are in a dark state, and the background is the cold light of moonlight illumination, which has a texture of black and white photos. Through the alley entrance, you can see part of the street view. The silence of the night contrasts with the noise of the streets, thus reinforcing the sense of life.
