In the early and mid-13th centuries, the Mongolian Iron Horse, which arose in the desert steppe, swept across Eurasia with a furious momentum, expanding a steppe nomadic empire into a world empire that ruled many peoples, covered vast territories, and embraced multiple cultures. The Southern Song Dynasty, which was partial to southern China and was known for its weakness, became the longest-resisting regime on Eurasia to resist the Mongol army, and ended after more than 40 years of war.
