With the release of Toyota's new generation land cruiser (LC300) in June this year, Toyota's other hardcore SUV Prado has also been replaced. However, judging from the latest foreign media reports, the launch date of the new generation of Prado will be postponed than the previously announced August 2022, and the new car is likely to be released in the summer of 2024.

Not only that, foreign media have previously reported that the new generation of Land Cruiser will be as long as two years or more due to the superposition of factors such as large orders and chip shortages. Therefore, if the new generation of Prado debuts according to the original plan for August 2022, it means that the new generation of Land Cruiser and the new generation of Prado have the problem of overlapping delivery dates. Based on this, foreign media speculated that the reason for the delay in the release date of the new car may not come from the production link, but from the sales strategy formulated by Toyota. However, as of now, Toyota officials have not come forward to clarify.
Looking back at the new car, the foreign media has repeatedly made early speculations about the new generation of Prado, and there is news that the new car will inherit the styling style of the new generation of Land Cruiser, and it is expected that the new generation of Prado will be equipped with a larger size forward grille, and the external mirror installation position will also be transferred from the lower side of the A-pillar to the front door position.

According to previous reports, the new generation of Prado may continue to use a trapezoidal frame structure, which will allow it to retain the non-loader body form used by the current model. At the same time, the new car is expected to be 4825/1885/1850 mm in length, and the power system may be equipped with the same 3.3T V6 diesel engine as the new generation land cruiser (LC300) Australian version model, and is expected to provide electronically controlled dynamic suspension system (eKDSS) and more driving assistance functions.

As a fork of the Land cruiser series, the Prado's full name in overseas markets is the Land Cruiser Prado, which is enough to show its genealogical relationship, where "Prado" means grass or field in Spanish or Portuguese. At present, the Prado has developed four generations of models, namely the first generation LC70 introduced in 1990, the second generation LC90 launched in 1996, the third generation LC120 launched in 2002 and the third generation LC150 launched in 2009. The models to be released in the future will be the fifth generation of the Prado series.
