【Medicinal parts】Derived from the whole grass of the legume plant Melilotussuaveotens Ledeb.
【Plant form】 Annual or biennial herb, 60 to 90 cm tall, with aroma after drying. The stem is erect and multi-branched. The three compound leaves are alternate and have stalks. The leaflets are oblong or inverted lanceolate, 1 to 1.5 cm long and about 0.5 cm wide, blunt at the apex, wedge-shaped at the base, with fine teeth at the edges, and the veins extend to the ends of the teeth; the leaves are linear. The inflorescence is axillary and slender. Calyx bell-shaped; corolla butterfly-shaped, yellow, flag petal longer than wing petal; stamens 10, disomy. The pods are ovate, smooth, brown when ripe, and reticulated. 1 seed. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from August to September.
