At the Xiaomeisha Resort, just past typhoon "Compass", a notice that "Xiaomeisha Resort will be officially closed on October 15" was posted on the ticket window, and there was not a single tourist on the wide sand of Xiaomeisha Resort, which was closed early because of the typhoon. According to reports, the Special Development Group has carried out project zoning for the reconstruction and transformation of the Xiaomeisha area. On December 10, 2019, Shenzhen Xiaomeisha Ocean World closed its doors for upgrading; soon after, Xiaomeisha Hotel also started demolition work.

Completed in 1999, Xiaomeisha Ocean World was the largest marine theme park in China at that time, with the largest exhibition hall and the richest underwater feature program. The Xiaomeisha Resort, which carries the collective memories of Shenzhen people, was officially closed, and also announced that the Xiaomeisha area has entered the stage of upgrading and transformation in an all-round way. The overall transformation project of the area is invested and constructed by Shenzhen Tefa Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Tefa Group"), with a total investment of more than 15 billion yuan, and is expected to be fully completed in 2024 and open in 2025 to welcome guests, with the concept of "livable, suitable for work, suitable for tourism" in the city of mountains and seas, to create a world-class urban coastal tourist resort integrating "mountains, seas and cities".

Xiaomeisha Resort will plan to build an ecological park, outdoor sports and camping base of about 40 hectares, combined with the planning of the wedding industry in the area, with a mountain wedding ceremony hall, a fantasy mountain forest show that integrates lighting art, etc.;
Xiaomeisha New Ocean World will take the South China Sea culture as the theme and the integration of science and technology as the feature, and create a characteristic marine park integrating science popularization, display and entertainment to provide a wonderful marine experience for the public;
Xiaomeisha Hotel will also be upgraded to MGM Shenzhen.
