In the same period of 2020, the top ten GDP were Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Henan, Sichuan, Fujian, Hunan, Hubei and Anhui. The observation found that although the names of the top ten provinces have not changed, in the first three quarters of 2021, Hubei's total GDP surpassed That of Hunan and ranked eighth.

Specifically, in the first three quarters of 2021, the GDP of Guangdong and Jiangsu exceeded 8 trillion yuan for the first time, ranking among the "8 trillion club". The total economic volume of Shandong, Zhejiang and Henan has also further increased, exceeding 6 trillion, 5 trillion and 4 trillion yuan for the first time, respectively.

Guangdong and Jiangsu are firmly on the top and second place, with GDP in the first three quarters of 8,800.986 billion yuan and 8,489.57 billion yuan respectively. It is worth noting that compared with the data of the same period in 2020, it is found that the gap between the total economic volume of Guangdong and Jiangsu has decreased. The GDP gap between the two provinces has further narrowed from 458.83 billion yuan in the same period of 2020 to 320.416 billion yuan in the first three quarters of the current year.

Su Jian, director of the National Economic Research Center of Peking University, pointed out in an interview with the reporter of China-Singapore Economics and Latitude that Guangdong and Jiangsu have always been in the first echelon of China's total economic output. Under the background of normalized epidemic prevention and control, the large economic provinces along the eastern coast have performed well in recovery and development, and other provinces have little threat to Guangdong and Jiangsu.

Speaking of the narrowing of the gap between the total GDP of Jiangsu and Guangdong in the first three quarters, Su Jian believes that Jiangsu's regional economic development is relatively balanced, the manufacturing industry is strong and developing rapidly. Relying on the Yangtze River Delta city circle, Jiangsu has strengthened its industrial complementarity with Shanghai and Zhejiang, upgraded its own industrial structure rapidly, and achieved steady economic growth.

The growth rate of 10 provinces outperformed the whole country

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, according to preliminary calculations, the gross domestic product in the first three quarters 823131 billion yuan, calculated at comparable prices, an increase of 9.8% year-on-year, and an average growth of 5.2% in two years.

From the perspective of GDP growth rate, among the 31 provinces, Hubei, Hainan, Beijing, Zhejiang, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Shandong, Chongqing and other 10 provinces in the first three quarters of GDP growth exceeded the national growth rate, Shanghai GDP growth rate is the same as the national growth rate.

Among them, Hubei is far ahead with a growth rate of 18.7%, followed by Hainan with a growth rate of 12.8%, and Beijing is third with a growth rate of 10.7%.

Su Jian pointed out that in the first three quarters of this year, Hubei's annual GDP growth rate ranked first, mainly because the impact of the epidemic in 2020 was more serious and the base was relatively low. Hainan benefited from the continuous release of the policy dividend of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the strong support of the tax-free economy for consumption. Beijing mainly relies on key industries and the new economy to concentrate on its efforts, Beijing's industrial production maintained rapid growth, and the added value of industries above designated size increased by 38.7% year-on-year.

It is worth noting that in the first three quarters, Henan Province, which ranked in the top five in terms of GDP and economic aggregate, was close to the bottom in terms of growth rate.

In this regard, the Henan Provincial Bureau of Statistics explained that since the third quarter, severe flood disasters, new crown pneumonia epidemic and other factors have had a great impact on the economy, the province's economic operation has encountered unprecedented severe challenges and tests, and at the same time affected by the gradual increase in the base of the previous year, the growth rate of major indicators has declined to varying degrees.

The Henan Provincial Bureau of Statistics said that whether it is a flood or an epidemic, the impact on economic operation is short-term and external, the comparative advantages accumulated over a long period of time have not changed, the long-term trend of the economy has not changed, and the resilience, motivation and vitality of development are still relatively strong.
