The Wang Family Compound was built by the Jingsheng Wang family in the Ming and Qing dynasties for more than 300 years, mainly composed of five lanes and six forts and one street, (named after the five spirit beasts of "dragon, phoenix, tiger, turtle and lin" respectively) and the surrounding ancillary buildings, with a total area of about 250,000 square meters.

The culture of the Jinshang compound has always been high and deep, because the courtyard culture is a form of expression of their huge wealth accumulation, and the Wang Family Compound is the largest folk architectural complex in Shanxi and even the whole country, with the titles of "Chinese Folk Forbidden City", "Shanxi Forbidden City" and "The First House of Chinese Folk Residences".

The entire Wang family compound consists of five forts, of which Hongmen Fort (Dragon), Gaojiaya (Feng), and Chongning Fort (Tiger) are currently open. If you buy tickets, you can visit Gaojia cliffs in order, then Hongmen Fort, and Chongning Fort has been transformed into a hot spring hotel, and guests can enter.

Whether it is Gaojiaya or Hongmen Fort, the buildings inside are all courtyards, there is a bridge between the two fort complexes, and all the buildings are built in strict accordance with the feudal hierarchy, which looks quite solemn, regular, and in line with the patriarchal etiquette. Looking at the details, brick carving, wood carving, and stone carving are rich in themes, skilled in techniques, ornately decorated, and exquisitely carved, which is of great historical and cultural value at a glance.

The Red Gate Fort is particularly large, the whole area is divided into four rows from bottom to top, and there is a north-south passage that runs through, and visitors can go to the top, and the surrounding scenery is unobstructed. From here, it looks like a huge castle, even like a city, and there are many small houses neatly arranged in the castle, and hundreds of thousands of people from a family live here. Many European castles are not as huge as the buildings here, and the buildings here are not like the buildings of the Anhui Southern Hui merchants scattered in the fields, but like the Hakka people in the south, they wrap themselves up layer by layer. Tourists circle around the Red Gate Fort and basically can come out, the whole trip is about two or three hours.
