Roots Quest Series (47): Rough Collie

Practice civilized dog walking and promote scientific dog breeding. Hello everyone, I'm Brother Shaw.

Pay attention to the headline number "Xiao Ge Walking Dog", and take you to understand the canine knowledge every day.

Yesterday we shared the origins and history of the Field Spaniel, and today we're going to talk about the Rough Collie, who ranks 47th in IQ.

Looking through the data carefully, the 17th ranked Collie (Scottish Shepherd) and today's 47th coarse-haired Collie point to the same breed.

Coarse-haired and flat-haired Collie dogs are the same in other ways except for the length of their coats. The breed is thought to have evolved from dogs originally brought to Scotland by the Romans and then mated with local dogs. Purists may point out some subtle differences that arise when individual breeders select breeding stock for future breeding, but in fact, the two breeds were recently derived from the same breed and they share a common ancestor. The Coarse Fur Curly is a slightly more elaborate version of the original working Shepherd, from which it was selected for at least a hundred years. The most basic message is that although the Shepherd is beautiful, it is a working dog.

The beautiful appearance of the coarse-haired Collie has attracted the attention of breeding experts and the public. It was not until it was loved by Queen Victoria and used as a companion dog that its reputation gradually increased. However, it was not until Hollywood discovered and made the dog the protagonist of a couples movie that it gained international recognition and became popular all over the world.

In 1885, the American Kennel Club AKC recognized the coarse-haired Collie as a separate breed. The 23rd U.S. President, Benjamin Harrison (August 20, 1833 – March 13, 1901), bred a coarse-haired Collie named Dash.

On April 13, 1955, the World Colline Union FCI recognized the coarse-haired Collie as an independent breed.
