Lin Feilong and the poet
The Cuban painter Lin Feilong (1902-1982) had a father of Chinese and a mother of Spanish and African descent. Since the 1930s, he has made France his second home country and is deeply influenced by France artistically. His style blends Western modernist painting with symbols of African or Caribbean art. He witnessed all the avant-garde art movements of the same period: the Geometricism, the Surrealist School, and the Cobra School— schools that expressed the pursuit of freedom through unconscious images, the subconscious mind, or the exploration of fantasy worlds... Lin Feilong confronted the various problems of human society. Like his friend Aimé Shasser, Lin "turned his work into a weapon of struggle to depict the suffering of his country, his black cause, and the spirit of black people."
