At around 1:30 p.m. local time in Singapore on February 6, the South Korean Black Hawk Air Show Team participating in the 2018 Singapore Airshow had a sudden accident during take-off. A T-50B airshow airslide airshow overrun on the runway for unknown reasons. Instantly surrounded by fire. The pilot was slightly injured and had been taken to hospital for treatment.
The accident of this T-50 fighter led to the closure of Runway 1 at Changi Airport. Several flights have been affected to varying degrees.
The KFO Air Show Team in Wonju, Gangwon Province, is the 53rd Air Force Performance Squadron of the KFO. The name is "Black Eagles". The squadron was formed on December 12, 1994, and its early air show aircraft were six Cessna A-37B Dragonfly aircraft. After the 2007 Seoul Airshow, the group was temporarily disbanded and in 2010 it was fitted with 10 T-50B Golden Hawk advanced trainer aircraft. Among them, there are generally 8 air shows, and the other two are spare.
As the pride of the Rokkawi Air Force, the team has participated in many major international air shows, and the 2014 and 2016 air shows were rumored to be performed at the Zhuhai Air Show. Later, the plan was cancelled due to U.S. reasons.
The flight rehearsal of this performance team is quite wonderful, but since its establishment, there have been many major safety accidents. As early as the period of equipping the A-37B, on May 8, 1998, during a flight training, two A-37B aircraft collided in the air. One of the planes crashed, killing Captain Black Hawk. Another plane was slightly injured. On May 5, 2006, at Suwon Air Base, an A-37B crashed on the edge of a runway during an airshow celebrating Children's Day. Thousands of spectators, including many children, witnessed the accident live. On November 15, 2012, a T-50B trainer plane of the Black Hawk Aerobatic Show Team of the South Korean Air Force crashed on a mountainside about 48 nautical miles east of Seoul, and it was later found that the accident was caused by human error by ground staff during maintenance operations that caused the aircraft to fall ill.
According to the scene, the accident may have been caused by the tire puncture of the T-50B aircraft, and accurate information needs to be further confirmed.
