A ball on May 27: With only a few weeks to go until Euro 2020, coaches from around the world have begun to determine who they choose to play in this cross-continental competition, but not all the top stars can be selected, and the following is a list of 11 stars who regret missing the European Championship and the reasons for their absence.
1. Ter Stegen
The Barcelona goalkeeper missed Germany's group stage due to injury. The 29-year-old recently revealed he needed knee surgery.
2. Sergio Ramos
Real Madrid centre-back Ramos, 35, has been battling injuries and has played just one game since the end of March, meaning he will miss out on Spain.
3. Van Dijk
The Liverpool defender ended the season early due to a severe knee injury in October. The Dutch may miss him as much as the Reds.
4. Emerson Palmieri
Chelsea defender Palmieri has been a regular for the Italian national team under Mancini but is now excluded from the latest squad.
5. Ricardo Pereira
The Leicester full-back, who has been through an injured season but has now recovered to fitness, may be sad that he missed portugal's game
6. Eric Dale
Dill, England's hero of the 2018 World Cup, had a tough spell for Tottenham Hotspur, with a string of missteps that determined his fate.
7. Alger Robben
The winger, now 37, has retired. Robben said he would schedule time if Dutch coach De Boer called. But the phone never came.
8. Kevin Stroman
The midfielder was impressive when he came to Genoa on loan from Marseille, but not enough to enter the Netherlands.
9. Marco Reuss
Dortmund's captain was thought to be on the verge of being recalled by the German national team, but he ruled out the possibility himself in order to concentrate on recovering after a "very stressful" season.
10. Hal Robson Kanu
The West Brom striker, one of Wales' stars at Euro 2016, scored a memorable goal in the quarter-finals of the 3-1 win over Belgium, but his absence was remarkable this time.
11. Patrick Palmford
He is the second-highest-scoring Briton in the Premier League, behind Harry Kane, but Palmford's outstanding performance at Leeds United did not convince Southgate to choose him.
