It is understood that Nanfang Hospital is the First Affiliated Hospital and the First Clinical Medical College of Southern Medical University, built in 1941 as the rear hospital of the Third Division of the New Fourth Army, and developed into the First Affiliated Hospital of the First Military Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army after the founding of the People's Republic of China. In 2004, the hospital was transferred to Guangdong Province as a whole with the First Military Medical University and renamed as the Southern Hospital of Southern Medical University. The hospital is now one of the first batch of key construction units of the "Dengfeng Plan" of high-level hospitals in Guangdong Province, a national trauma regional medical center and a national regional traditional Chinese medicine (rheumatism) diagnosis and treatment center, with a national key laboratory and a national clinical medical research center, 5 national key disciplines and 17 national clinical key specialties.

The new surgical building added 1,600 beds to the inpatient department

"This building has a total of 22 floors, and the 8 floors and above are standard wards, with about 1,600 beds, plus the existing 3,601 beds, which will increase by nearly one-half on the basis of the original beds." Standing in front of the newly completed surgical building inpatient department, Li Wenyuan, president of Southern Hospital, introduced that the total construction area of the medical complex building (surgical inpatient department) of Southern Hospital is 144,000 square meters, the building height is 100 meters, 3 floors underground, and 22 floors above ground. The basement is mainly planned as an underground parking lot and a civil air defense protection unit function, with a total of about 912 motor vehicle spaces and a non-motorized parking area of about 2357 square meters. The main tower floors 1-8 mainly use the medical technology and operating room area, and the 8th floor above is the standard ward area, with about 1600 beds. The podium below the 8th floor is connected to the surgical building with a corridor, through which it can be directly connected with the surgical building, which together constitute the hospital surgical medical center. Not only that, the podium has a multi-functional conference hall, which can accommodate 510 people, providing a favorable place for better academic exchanges in the hospital in the future, and the China Hospital Clinical Specialty Construction and Development Forum was held at this venue.

President Li Wenyuan said that since the Southern Hospital was successfully selected as the first batch of key construction units of the "Summit Plan" of the first batch of high-level hospitals in Guangdong Province, the Southern Hospital has entered the fast lane of rapid development, the completion of the new Huiqiao Medical Center building in 2019, the new surgical inpatient tribe this year, and the Guangzhou Nephrology Medical Center has also broken ground, which will greatly alleviate the pressure of insufficient space for the development of the hospital, and will also lay a solid foundation for the further development of the hospital.
