Chairman Mao was equipped with as many as 26 secretaries in his lifetime, and the most well-known ones are political secretary Hu Qiaomu, daily secretary Tian Jiaying, confidential secretary Ye Zilong, political secretary Chen Boda, and life secretary Jiang Qing. But we are not going to talk about any of them today, but a low-key, but unusual relationship with Chairman Mao—Huang Zuyan.

Huang Zuyan and Mao Zedong met in 1929. At that time, Mao Zedong was the leader of the Red Fourth Army and the Jinggangshan Base Area. In 1929, in order to crush the blockade and siege of the Jinggangshan base area by more than a dozen regiments of the Kuomintang army, Mao Zedong led the main force of the Red Fourth Army of nearly 4,000 people to leave Jinggangshan and advance towards Gannan.
Gannan is Huang Zuyan's hometown and the place where he joined the Communist Party to make a revolution. Huang Zuyan has long admired Mao Zedong. This time, gannan met the division, as the host to welcome the arrival of Mao Zedong, which made the young Huang Zuyan excited.
For Huang Zuyan, mao zedong was a brother, leader, mentor and friend, especially the opportunity to listen to Mao Zedong's introduction of the experience of the Jinggangshan struggle, the experience of leading the revolutionary struggle, and the strategic thinking of the Chinese revolution, which made Huang Zuyan unforgettable.
This meeting left a deep impression on both sides. After studying at this meeting, Huang Zuyan's military ability was also improved, and he later made many military merits and received commendations.
Huang Zuyan served as Mao Zedong's secretary in 1933, Mao Zedong was good at thinking and writing, as a secretary Huang Zuyan helped sort out Mao Zedong's manuscripts with a lot of work, relying entirely on Huang Zuyan to manually transcribe the draft into a neat draft.
Huang Zuyan compiled many important works and articles of that period for Mao Zedong. In addition to doing a good job as a staff assistant at work, Huang Zuyan also cared about and took good care of Mao Zedong in his daily life.
Before the Long March, in Yandu, Mao Zedong fell seriously ill with a high fever, severe headache, chills, and vomiting. Huang Zuyan was anxious, but there were no medical conditions in the area.
Huang Zuyan immediately made a decision and rushed dozens of miles overnight to ask Fu Lianhui, the best doctor of the Red Army. After Fu Lianhui arrived, he was found to be suffering from falciparum malaria and his body temperature had reached 40 degrees Celsius. After Fu Lianhui's symptomatic treatment and Huang Zuyan's meticulous care, Chairman Mao finally recovered from his illness.
The stabbing incident began and ended
In 1951, Huang Zuyan, director of the Political Department of the Shandong Military Region and a member of the Shandong Provincial People's Government Committee, was assassinated. This was a serious incident in which senior cadres of our Party were assassinated by counter-revolutionaries hidden within the Party after the founding of New China, which caused shock to the whole Party and the whole army.
At about 8:30 p.m. on March 13, 1951, in the municipal government auditorium on Jinan's Jinger Road, there were gongs and drums and the sound of strings.
Here, the Shandong Military Region's forum on cultural work has just come to an end, and a performance of the literary and art evening is underway.
Before the performance began, he addressed the delegates. After speaking, he stepped down from the stage and sat down in a chair in the middle of the front row. The seats reserved for Xu Shiyou and other military chiefs were empty, and they were unable to attend the meeting and the party for various reasons. Therefore, only Huang Zuyan sat in the front row.
The performance took place in a lively atmosphere, but no one expected that at this time, a ghost sat in the fourth row directly in front of the stage, and by dim light, was preparing to carry out a criminal conspiracy. This person's name is Wang Jumin, one of the participants.
From time to time, the program on the stage aroused warm applause from the audience. The man looked around and found that people were watching the performance intently, and no one paid any attention to him, so he quietly went around behind Huang Zuyan and stared viciously at Huang Zuyan in the front row. With his right hand in his pocket, he clutched a revolver.
The program of the literary evening is mainly singing and juggling. The first program is the local big drum, the second program is the Henan pendant, and the third program is the West River big drum. Just as the third program was over and the audience was enthusiastically applauding, Wang Jumin quietly drew his pistol and aimed it at Huang Zuyan's head. With a gunshot, Huang Zuyan collapsed in a pool of blood.
Wang Jumin saw that the first shot had already hit Huang Zuyan's key point, so the second shot was fired at the department and the director's seat, but due to panic, it did not hit the target. When he heard someone shouting at him, he aimed a third shot at his own head...
It came so suddenly that it was unexpected. When someone reacted and shouted "Catch him," the killer killed himself. People woke up from the nightmare and immediately surrounded Huang Zuyan, Zhang Yiping of the Shandong Military Region's Security Department, and others, and hurriedly carried Huang Zuyan into a car and sent him to the provincial hospital. But because the injury was too serious, Huang Zuyan had stopped breathing and was only 43 years old.
Huang Zuyan's assassination was reported to Mao Zedong
On March 13, 1951, when Huang Zuyan was killed and sacrificed, on the night of the incident, the relevant leaders of the Shandong Military Region, the director of the Shandong Provincial Public Security Department, and the director of the Jinan Municipal Public Security Bureau rushed to the municipal government auditorium to conduct on-site investigation and investigation of the assassination, and also reported the incident to Chairman Mao and the Party Central Committee.
Letter of appointment of Huang Zuyan issued by Chairman Mao Zedong
The Shandong Branch of the CPC and the Shandong Military Region immediately reported the news of Huang Zuyan's murder to the CPC Central Committee and Mao Zedong, and Mao Zedong was very shocked after hearing the news and deeply regretted the loss of a beloved general. On March 18, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee, he personally drafted a circular and sent it to all central bureaus, major military regions, volunteer army party committees, central sub-bureaus, provincial and municipal party committees, and other units.
Mao Zedong demanded that the whole Party should be alarmed:
First, strictly guard against retaliation by "counter-revolutions."
Second, it must be understood that there are already a small number of "counter-revolutionaries" mixed in within the Party and the government and in the army, and we must not think that there is nothing wrong with the peace.
In order to learn the lesson of huang Zuyan's assassination, the Shandong branch of the COMMUNIST Party of China issued seven instructions to its subordinate units on March 14, the day after the incident.
After reading the seven instructions of the Shandong sub-bureau, Mao Zedong wrote a paragraph of criticism on March 20 and sent it to the whole country and the whole army in the name of the CPC Central Committee.
Luo Ronghuan (Inspector General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, Director of the General Political Department and Director of the General Cadre Department), Luo Ruiqing (Minister of Public Security), Fu Zhong (Deputy Director of the General Political Department), Yang Qiqing (Vice Minister of Public Security), and Xiao Hua (Deputy Director of the General Political Department) jointly wrote a report to Mao Zedong on April 12 on the assassination of Huang Zuyan.
After reading the report, Mao Zedong issued an instruction in the report on April 19: "I hereby send you a report on the investigation of the assassination of Comrade Huang Zuyan by Comrades Luo Ronghuan and Luo Ruiqing. "Counter-revolutionaries" like Wang Jumin have long had many manifestations of evil deeds, and if there are such people in the whole party and the whole army, we must pay attention to dealing with them in a timely manner. Mao Zedong's instructions were sent to the whole army and the whole country in his own name.
For the sacrifice of a comrade, Mao Zedong gave three consecutive instructions in a short period of one month. This is rare in the history of my party. Maybe it has something to do with the unusual experiences and interactions between them during the war years.
Assassination of Huang Zuyan's murderer
After the murderer Wang Jumin committed suicide by drinking a bullet, he did not die at that time, and he died after being dragged out of the auditorium. Wang Jumin, who is it?
Wang Jumin, 34 years old, a native of Wendeng County, Shandong Province, graduated from middle school and was a primary school teacher before enlisting in the army. After being mixed into the army, he served as the chief and deputy instructor, education officer, deputy political commissar of the county brigade, deputy chief of the direct engineering section, and deputy chief of the propaganda and education section. In 1944, our local government implemented rent reduction and interest reduction, which directly involved the interests of its landlords' families, and it caused dissatisfaction.
In the "land reform", after the family was fought, he became more and more dissatisfied, saying that "the soldiers have beaten the world, the mass movement has confused the soldiers", and "before they were oppressed by feudalism, now they are oppressed by Communists." "When my father dies, I can't live." And tried to use the organization to counterattack the masses, the local masses jointly wrote a letter to Wang's troops, exposing his conspiracy, exposing the crimes of him and his father, the letter was arbitrarily read, the content was passed to Wang's ear, Wang thought that the matter was not good, so he carried out crazy "class revenge".
In 1952, Chairman Mao, accompanied by Xu Shiyou, commander of the Shandong Military Region, personally visited Huang Zuyan's tomb to pay tribute to this secretary, comrade, comrade-in-arms, friend, and brother who was in the same boat during his most difficult period. Standing in front of the tomb of the martyr Huang Zuyan, Mao Zedong bowed and mourned, touched the three words "Huang Zuyan" on the tombstone, and said affectionately: "Zuyan, I have come to see you!" "I couldn't help but burst into tears...
Chairman Mao slowly said to Commander Xu Shiyou: "Zu Yan was a good comrade, he was once my secretary, and he left a deep and very good impression on me; Zu Yan was able to write and use martial arts, and his talent was rare; he was loyal to the party, he was serious in his work, he sacrificed 4 relatives for the revolution, and his sacrifice was a major loss to our party and our army." ”
It is a supreme honor for a Communist Party member or revolutionary soldier to be paid tribute to the grave by the Supreme Leader of the Party and the Supreme Commander of the Army after his death, and this is the only case in the history of the Republic. This also fully explains the status and weight of Huang Zuyan in Chairman Mao's heart.
As the saying goes, a tiger father has no dog. Huang Zuyan's descendants did not lose face for him, and his eldest son, Huang Xin, was a deputy political commissar of the Air Force and held the rank of lieutenant general. Huang Xin's wife is Yang Huarong, the daughter of the founding general Yang Dezhi, who is also a major general, and Huang Xin and Yang Huarong are a rare general couple in our army.
