Q: In Taishi Sato's Hakodate Trilogy, after Kazuka Kuma's "Narration of Haitan City" and Wu Miho's "Only Shine There", the last part is directed by you. What are your thoughts on these two works?

Atsuhiro Yamashita: "The Story of Haitan City" is very impactful, and director Xiong Che is really powerful. I have always felt willfully that there are always some gloomy places for creators from Hokkaido. The same goes for director Bear Cut. Musically, the bands Eastern Youth, Bloodthirsty Butchers, and THA BLUE HERB were also chosen. Maybe because Hokkaido has a vast land and a harsh natural environment, it will have some unique sensibilities. In college, I watched Xiong Che's "Ghost Animal Banquet" and realized that he was harboring some kind of dangerous impulse. "Narration of Haitan City" presents a dark world that he has long been missing.

Wu Meibao is a classmate of my college classmates, and "Only Shine There" is a love story told from a fresh perspective, which makes me feel that the original literature of Taishi Sato can also be told from such an incision.
