On the same day, when the inspector of the Bingcheng Customs Post Office affiliated to Harbin Customs conducted X-ray machine inspection of incoming international mail, he found that the machine inspection image of a mail sent from Australia was abnormal.
After further inspection, the mail was packed with a cardboard box of rigid plastic foam, and two test tubes wrapped in tin foil were inserted into the foam and sealed, and the test tubes contained two large living ants and more than ten off-white ant eggs.
According to reports, the living ants are huge, the body color is black and brown, and the body length is about 2.5 cm and 3 cm.
The mail declaration product is called "Hobby Supplies" (hobby supplies), the declaration is vague, the packaging and hiding methods are professional, and the intention of evading customs supervision is obvious.
After identification, the above live ants are all unique to Australia, commonly known as "bull ants" and "inch ants", which are poisonous ants.
The intercepted ants were illegally mailed by domestic pet lovers for breeding and ornamental purposes, and were the first cases of live pet ants intercepted in Heilongjiang Province. According to the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Quarantine of Animals and Plants Entering and Leaving the Country and Announcement No. 1712 of the Ministry of Agriculture and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, live insects are prohibited from being mailed into the country, and if they are introduced due to scientific research needs, they should go through the approval procedures for special quarantine in advance.
At present, the Bingcheng Customs Post Office under Harbin Customs has intercepted and destroyed the batch of live ants in accordance with the law.
