High School Excellent Essay Showcase: What You See, I Became

What you see, I become

Senior Three (8) Class Zhang Wanru

Stand at the forefront of time and look back at all the past. What kind of history do you see? And in this history, what kind of young people have you seen from generation to generation? You begin to see that on May 4, 1919, a feat of Chinese youth was admired, sighed, and full of hope. You say that this is the strength of youth as the vanguard of the nation. Time has traveled a hundred years since then.

In this hundred years, you have seen that during the War of Resistance Against Japan, there were a large number of fearless and enthusiastic young people among the warriors who fought on the front line, feared life and death, and defended the country. You can see that during the period of reform and opening up, among the tide-makers who bravely stood at the head of the tide and were proud of the shopping malls, there were a large number of pioneering and enterprising young people. Today, as China is getting richer and stronger and moving toward modernization, what do you see as the new youth of this period look like?

But you say that this generation of youth has collapsed, this generation of youth has fallen, this generation of youth has been spoiled. You said that this generation of young people only knows how to eat, drink and have fun; this generation of young people cannot stand the pressure and is too fragile; this generation of young people has suffered too little...

The long axis of time has finally unfolded the magnificent picture of 2020. Once again, the Chinese nation has experienced storms. You can see the white-clad angels on the front line of the fight against the epidemic, the volunteers supported by all parties, and many of them are young people. These young people are not the youth of 1919, they are not the youth of the War of Resistance and reform and opening up, they are right here and now. Some say the pandemic is a coming-of-age ceremony for this generation of youth. It should be noted, however, that it was not this coming-of-age ceremony that allowed young people to grow up, but that this generation of young people who have grown up brilliantly fulfilled it.

What you see is always just a part of a generation of young people. And generation after generation of young people want to be people who change the world. It seems so distant and great that it seems necessary to have a specific time to accomplish it. Is this true? Probably not. The world is never perfect, and at any moment, we have the opportunity to change the world.

Like the unspoken rules that prevail in the world, someone told me, "If you don't follow it, you'll suffer." "But if it's not right, why don't we break it and change it?"

Yes, whoever dares to come out will pay the price and will be hurt: the head is broken and bleeding, and the wounds are scarred. Then make yourself strong enough to bear these costs and harms. If, we, the young people, only listen to what they say, only know how to seek advantage and avoid harm, and be a delicate egoist. Then there will never be generations of young people who are brave and fearless to change the world.

What we want to be should not be easily defined. The youth we want should not be easily denied.
