White-palmed gibbon, genus gibbons of the family Gibbonidae of the primate simplicity-nosed suborder Gibbonidae. There are 5 subspecies differentiation: nominate subspecies, Thai subspecies, Malay subspecies, Indonesian subspecies, and Yunnan subspecies. The hands and feet are white or pale white, hence the name. Both sexes have dark and light color types, the dark color type coat color is black brown, the light color type is light yellow or cream yellow, and the color varies between different subspecies. It is found in Yunnan and Southeast Asia, China, and inhabits tropical monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forests.
The body is 43.5–58.5 cm long, weighs 5–7.6 kg, and the females are slightly smaller. The whole body is dense and long, and it is relatively fluffy. The face is brownish-black , with a ring of white hairs from the edge of the eyebrow through the cheek to the lower jaw. The coat color of the hands and feet is very light, and it is almost white when viewed from a distance, also known as the white-handed gibbon. The legs are short, the palms are longer than the soles of the feet, and the knuckles of the fingers are long. The body is slender, with broad shoulders and narrow hips. There are longer canine teeth. The buttocks have callos, no tail and buccal sacs. There is a sac in the larynx and is good at chirping.
It is generally composed of 5-8 animals in a family group, each with an adult male and a female, and the rest are semi-adult and young gibbons, headed by an adult male. The members of the family are generally very harmonious with each other, loving each other and defending each other. Territorial, the territory of each group is about 54 hectares. Chimes are the primary form of communication for group members, and every morning, males and females chirp in unison. It feeds on a variety of tropical berries, stone fruits and a variety of leaves, buds, flowers, etc.
