This is the last post of The Doomsday Creatures of Love and Monsters, introducing the last beach boss to appear, monster number 0052 - Hell Crab.
Hell Crab designed as HellCrab, and its bio-concept designers were Andrew Baker and Mickael Lelièvre. Its prototype is an Earth crab organism, so the biological classification is: arthropods Phylum Molluscosaurus decapoda.
The specific prototype is speculated to be a tidal crab, because the hell crab has a very important feature, that is, a pair of claws of very different sizes.
However, the point to be added here is that not only the claws of the tide crab are one big and one small. Crab claws have the ability to regenerate, and when the old ones are dropped, they will grow new ones, so occasionally you can see other crab claws as large as one or small. The crab's claw (an old one and a new one) is a weapon of attack and a tool for its survival with its tail broken, and when the crab encounters a major danger, it will actively shed its claw limbs for the predator, thus saving its life.
The shape of the hell crab is exaggerated and modified on the basis of the earth crab. So its body structure is basically the same as that of ordinary crabs. The main torso is divided into an abdomen and a thorax, but the abdomen is twisted on the ventral surface of the cephalothorax, so most crabs look like a whole piece. It has 5 pairs of footlets (including claws) on either side of the body, so it is a decanter). But it actually has 8 pairs of thoraxes and 3 pairs of jaws in the mouthparts.
The mouthpiece of the hell crab in the film is also the part with the strongest visual impact. The mouthparts of ordinary crabs are generally 1 pair of large jaws, 2 pairs of small jaws plus the 3 pairs of jaws mentioned above. The mouthparts of the hell crab are even more vicious, and in addition to the above structure, there are many ring-shaped teeth, which look like a flesh and blood shredder.
The outer carapace of the hell crab is its exoskeleton, which includes the cephalothorax and bottom shell. The dorsal carapace is a relatively complete piece, while the bottom shell consists of 7 symmetrical segments of the ventral carapace. Crab exoskeletons generally contain astaxanthin, which is why they turn red at high temperatures. As for the colorful things on the hell crab, they are basically parasites, such as barnacles and seaweed.
In addition, the furry-looking parts on both sides of the hell crab's head are its gills, which are the respiratory organs of crabs, for a total of 6 pairs made up of gill shafts and gill leaves. Although it breathes with gills, its gill cavity is larger than that of aquatic organisms, so it can move on land.
The main offensive means of the hell crab is to rely on strong claws to attack. And its pincer bites rely not on muscle strength, but on the principle of hydraulics, so the force will be far greater than the feeling of its body shape. (Anyway, the coconut crab can easily clip off the fingers of humans, and the size of the hell crab, clipping through the steel plate is estimated to be a big problem)
As for the defense of the Hell Crab, it should be regarded as the strongest of the doomsday creatures in "Love and Monsters" (because the front is basically hiccuped by the protagonist's aura), at least it has carried a bombardment of an RPG, so there is no problem in calling it the beach boss.
Referring to the human body size in the film, the hell crab is at least more than 8 meters tall and its weight cannot be estimated.
The most important difference between hell crab and ordinary crab is the eye, the normal crab is usually a pair of handle eyes (and is the movable eye handle), while the hell crab's eyes are more anthropomorphic, and the final presentation is the designer's balance and trade-off between real creatures and anthropomorphism, which is also the theme of "Love and Monsters" emphasized by "Love and Monsters".
