The Xiamen Coast Guard Bureau recently cracked a case of smuggling precious animal products, seized 1 fishing boat involved in the case, arrested 3 criminal suspects, and seized more than 110 kilograms of smuggled precious and endangered animal products, lu's hammerhead shark.

At the end of May this year, the Xiamen Coast Guard Bureau learned in its work that recently there were lawbreakers in the waters under its jurisdiction who tried to use fishing boats to smuggle chilled aquatic products from abroad and sell them in the domestic market for profit, including a large number of precious and endangered species.
In view of the serious complexity of the case and the severe situation of the epidemic situation abroad, the Xiamen Coast Guard Bureau immediately set up a special case team, held a special meeting to study and deploy the verification of clues, and at the same time strengthened the collection of clues and the mapping of the peripheral foundation, focusing on the investigation of fishing vessels operating around Xiamen, and finally locked a fishing boat as a suspect smuggling barge. Subsequently, the special case team immediately tracked and controlled the target ship, simultaneously formulated the investigation plan, improved the emergency plan for epidemic prevention and control at sea, and clarified the disposal process of key links such as on-site investigation, organization of escort, isolation and treatment, and disinfection of the place.
On June 10, the bureau learned that the suspect vessel had left the port to go to the designated sea area to pick up the smuggled aquatic products, immediately deployed to carry out a maritime investigation operation, and successfully seized the smuggling fishing vessel in the sea off the xiamen port, arrested 3 criminal suspects at the scene, and seized 58 boxes of sharks, pomfrets and other aquatic products involved in the case, totaling 1152.44 kilograms.
After judicial identification, the batch of aquatic products contains a large number of precious animal products such as the Lu's hammerhead shark more than 110 kilograms, which was listed as a global endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2008 and a precious animal listed in Appendix II of the International Convention on Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora in 2013.
It was preliminarily ascertained that at the end of May this year, captain Lin Mou and others, driven by economic interests, planned to drive fishing boats out to sea to pick up a batch of smuggled aquatic products and precious animal products from overseas ships, and smuggled them into the fish market after smuggling them into non-customs areas for sale. Lin Mou and others are suspected of smuggling precious animal products, and have now been taken criminal compulsory measures, and the case is being further investigated.
