Toxoplasmosis is a disease that is widely spread in nature and can infect a variety of animals, parasitic in pigs, cattle, sheep, cats and other animal cells, is a zoonotic protozoal disease. The disease can occur throughout the year, more often in summer, generally at the turn of the seasons, pigs of all ages can be infected, especially in piglets aged 3-5 months, and the incidence is the most serious. Toxoplasmosis, also known as toxoplasmosis, is a zoonotic parasitic protozoa disease caused by parasitic cells in a variety of animals. The disease can be transmitted by insects such as flies, mosquito bites, contaminated feed, drinking water, sick pig excrement and air droplets during cough can also spread pathogens, the incidence of pigs is 70%-86%, after the onset of the disease can be acute or chronic, sometimes obvious or asymptomatic.

The following is a detailed description of the diagnosis and control measures of toxoplasmosis, hoping to bring some enlightenment and help to the majority of farmers.

After an incubation period of 3 to 7 days, it showed symptoms very similar to swine fever, and the body temperature rose to 40.5 °C ~ 42 °C; Stay for 7 to 10 days, depressed, decreased appetite or waste food, mucus in the feces (piglets often see watery diarrhea), constipation, diarrhea alternate. Breathing difficulties are shallow and fast, and in severe cases, it is canine seated breathing, nasal fluid, and sometimes coughing. Inguinal lymphadenopathy is enlarged, and at the end of the ear wing nose, lower limbs, medial femur and abdomen appear erythematous spots and small bleeding spots, and finally lie down, breathing is extremely difficult, body temperature drops and dies. Pregnant sows have symptoms such as high fever, mental malaise, and loss of appetite, while after several days of stalemate, they may have miscarriage, stillbirth or weak litter, but most sows can heal themselves after childbirth. It should be noted that the symptoms of toxoplasmosis are similar to those of influenza, swine fever, pseudorabies and other diseases, and must be carefully distinguished during diagnosis and treatment.

In some cases, foamy liquids flow from the mouth. Pigs generally recover after 2 weeks, but often leave neurological symptoms such as cough, dyspnea and posterior paralysis, torticollis, and epileptic spasms. Pregnant sows mainly present with high fever, food waste, and miscarriage after several days of lethargy, giving birth to stillbirths or weak litters, but sows often heal quickly after childbirth.

Effective drugs for the treatment of this disease are sulfonamides.

(1) Sulfa hexamethyl + dimethoxybenzyl trimethoprim (trimethoxybenzyl) is 30 mg to 70 mg per kilogram of body weight, once every 24 hours, intramuscular injection for 3 days to 5 days, and carefully selected in severely ill pigs.

(2) Sulfadiazine (SD) 70 mg per kilogram of body weight, plus trimethoprim (TMP) or dimethoprim (DVD) 10 mg per kilogram of body weight, the dose of the former plus the latter, once a day orally, for 3 to 5 days.

1. Biological prevention and control

Do a good job of preventing rats and killing rats in the pigsty, and prohibit pigs from eating rats or other animal carcasses. It is forbidden to feed pigs with slaughter or kitchen garbage, raw broth water, so as to prevent pigs from becoming infected by eating the nourishants and sacs in sick or insect-carrying animals.

2. Strengthen daily feeding management

Pigs are fed a nutritious and balanced feed to avoid various stresses and promote the pig's own disease resistance and immunity. The pig house and the surrounding environment are kept hygienic and the cat's excrement is removed in time.

In short, in the high temperature season, we must grasp the general prevention and control principles, do not accumulate fertilizer in the pig house, frequently clean the pigsty, keep the house clean and dry, and prevent rain leakage in the pen. Always expose the mat grass to the sun and keep the mat soft. In addition, it is also necessary to ensure the ventilation of the pigsty, so that the pig house can maintain fresh air.
