Jianwen was the era name of the second emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Huizong Zhu Yunjiao (1399-1402), which lasted for four years. Ming Chengzu Zhu Di abolished the Jianwen era name after the successful Battle of Jingnan, and rebuilt the fourth year of Wen (1402) to the thirty-fifth year of Hongwu. Emperor Myeongjinzong issued an edict in the twenty-third year of the Wanli Calendar (1595) to restore the Jianwen era name.
