Changsha, March 8 (Moment News Reporter Liu Songhui) Reporters learned from the Hunan Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that inspectors intercepted a live adult fly in an inbound container at the Chenglingji Port, which was identified as a female ranch carrion fly. Ranch rotting flies are not distributed in Hunan, and this is the first time that live adult flies have been intercepted at Hunan ports.
According to inspectors, the live adult fly was caught in a container from the United States containing 178.8 tons of corn. After the discovery of live adult flies, inspectors monitored other containers of imported vector organisms and found no positive indications for new vector biological invasions.
Ranch rotting flies belong to the family Carrionidae, omnivorous and fecal eaters, is an important vector organism, adult insects can spread cholera, typhoid fever, dysentery and other digestive tract infectious diseases, larvae can parasitize human or animal tissues and organs, causing maggot disease.
Hunan Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau said that there are relatively few interceptions at other ports in China, and this interception has effectively prevented the invasion of foreign vector organisms.
