Under the guidance of the Shanghai Film Bureau and organized by the Shanghai Film Distribution and Projection Industry Association, the "British Film Masters Exhibition" sponsored by the Shanghai Art Film Alliance will be ticketed on February 26, and the film festival will open in Shanghai on March 6. This "British Film Masters Exhibition" will bring nine classic works directed by eight film masters, presenting the different styles of many film masters who have led the new style of film in different eras in the form of colorful films. British Exhibition Schedule

Since its release in September 2016, the British Film Masters Exhibition has been successfully held three times, in September 2016, December 2017 and January 2019.

This "British Film Masters Exhibition" not only echoes the directors or works screened in the previous three seasons, re-introduces the masterpieces of Michael Powell, James Evely, Ken Lodge and many other film masters who are already well known to Shanghai audiences, but also brings for the first time the latest digital restoration copies of the earliest extant moving images in Europe, tracing the origin of the film and paying tribute to the world film pioneers and unnamed photographers.

Among the films screened at this British Film Masters Exhibition, "The Wonderful Bivograaf Film Company" consists of 50 of the earliest moving video short films in Europe produced by Bivograf Film Company, which are selected by the Dutch Eye Film Museum and the British Film Institute, and through the latest restoration technology, restore the early short film moving images of 68 mm super format film. These films vividly document the social landscape of Europe from the nineteenth to the beginning of the twentieth century.

According to reports, the 8K scanning and 4K restoration of the film was completed by the Dutch Eye Film Museum and the British Film Institute in 2020, and this screening is a 4K digital restoration copy. "The Wonderful Bivograf Film Company" will be specially screened in the IMAX screening hall, which will be screened with Shanghai's top film projection equipment to match the top film restoration project. This is not only the first time that a 4K digitally restored copy of the film has been screened in an IMAX hall in Asia (a non-IMAX copy screening), but also the first time that a silent film has been screened in an IMAX hall in China, meeting the high-standard needs of fans for big-screen viewing.

Based on the classic German opera The Story of Hoffmann, "The Last Dream" tells the story of a hapless artist who pursues women, but is inspired by poetry after each failure. Co-directed by Michael Powell and Emerick Presberg, the film is a colourful song and dance film that won the Cannes Film Festival Special Award and the Berlin Film Festival Silver Bear.

It is worth mentioning that the films screened at this festival are all new digital restoration versions, and three of the five 4K digital restoration copies are Asian premieres. From March 6 to March 21, the festival will be held at Majestic Theater, Tianshan Cinema - Hongqiao Art Center Flagship Store, Daguang Cinema, and Huanying Cinema (Da Rong Cheng Store).
