Synopsis of The Floating Clouds · · · · · · · ·
Aina (Kati Outinen) and Kerry (Kari Väänänen) are a very good couple, one is a restaurant manager, the other is a tram driver, although the economy is not rich, even a little "tight", but it is clear that according to this development, the future of the two is full of light and hope. The arrival of the economic crisis has put Aina and Carey's family into crisis, Aina's restaurant has gone bankrupt, Carey has unfortunately won the lottery in the company's "layoffs and casting lotters", the husband and wife have lost their jobs at the same time, the family's loan has not been paid off, life has revealed a real and cruel face, Aina and Carey do not know what to do. Although they lost their jobs, the couple did not lose their fighting spirit and dignity, and in order to survive, they made various efforts, unfortunately, these efforts ended in failure. In this desperate situation, Aina's former boss appears in front of Aina, and he brings an opportunity, it may be bad, but it can also be good.
Synopsis: Aina is a manager of a high-end restaurant, his husband Kerry is a tram driver, they buy a lot of things in installments, although the days are tight but OK, the recession came, the tram company had to cut off employees, Kerry unfortunately became one of them. And the disaster is not alone, the restaurant where Aina works is also closed, the installment payment of the color TV is not as beautiful as the beauty of the eyes but the couple is unemployed, their lives are in trouble, the husband has not been able to find a job because of health reasons, and the wife has found a job in a fast food restaurant but was deceived by the boss, Kerry came to the boss's house in order to recover his wife's wages, the debt collection was not reversed by being flattened, and the successive failures made their lives gradually fall into difficulties, in order to raise funds to open a shop, they even sold the car, but there is a difference, Kerry to the casino a bo but lost, desperate two people still long for fate to change, one day, Aina met a former colleague, he brought a news related to the restaurant, then, will they make a comeback?
Behind the scenes: The film uses a minimalist approach that shows their relationship and the role of friends and colleagues. The set uses basic colors, the performance is extremely subtle, and the photography is precise and unobtrusive, which makes the whole film reveal a touch of warmth in the absurdity.
Film evaluation: The actors and the audience are just on both sides of the screen, mirroring each other. Such a way of establishing dialogue reflects the audience and the actors to some extent: the real audience is similar to the actors in the movie, living in difficulties, but not losing hope, and hope will eventually come. Aki Korismachi's films don't need a threshold, they need a patience. It's like smoking, you can only take one bite at a time. Kaurismäki buries deep meaning in simple stories and warmth in the characters' downfalls. Imagine the usual approach to a similar story, the simplest Asian technique: the fall of the good man causes pity, the bad guy makes the ugly cause laughter, and the simplest action- the image can be obtained. But in Kaurismäki's films, the action-image is transformed, diluting the action by setting a well-proportioned movement background (the same rate of image speed), so that the situation rises and falls slightly on the surface of the image, slowly fermenting until the end of a final action, releasing the brewing emotions.
The end of "Floating Clouds" ends the long wait in front of it: it is the process of the two characters of husband and wife. (1) Work and family are both perfect; (2) the husband who is the tram driver suffered layoffs, and the wife lost the job of the restaurant foreman; (3) the two found a new job; (4) the husband was rejected due to hearing disorder, and the wife's restaurant foreman was a scam; (5) the good wishes to open a restaurant; (6) the funds were insufficient and the loan could not be paid; (7) the wife met the original restaurant owner and received funding; (8) the guests did not come; (9) the restaurant business was booming.
It's a film that fits my current state of mind, so I couldn't help but watch it as an inspirational film (don't laugh), thanks to the director who gave me a bright ending, otherwise I might have been decadent for a while. This also shows how carefully and realistically the film filmed the unemployed life of this ordinary couple, how they fell into the predicament step by step, and how they slowly swam out of the water without giving up, trying to find a place to breathe. The world is difficult, but as long as you live, you can't and can't leave the table, the hidden anxiety and depression, the affection of each other, simple and unpretentious, but deeply moving. The technique is concise and condensed, the fire is pure, and the performance is restrained, calm, and does not show traces. Only music and color have subtle emotions, like frustration, like sorrow, like nostalgia.
I happened to watch Finnish director Aki Kolysmaki's "Lonely Shadow in Paradise" and found that I liked the tone of his film so much. So in the past few days, I have watched several of his films "Crime and Punishment", "Leningrad Cowboy March", and this "Floating Clouds". I have to say that Aki is one of the few directors who have the most appetite for me. Aki and my favorite Hou Mai have one thing in common, that is, their films are very tense, addictive, and not boring. Do not make empty abstract arguments, focus on the real life, and the reality of the joy and sorrow. They care far more about the human mind than the body. Like Houmai, Aki rejects naked sexual depictions, does not think that realistic men and women can easily go to bed, and believes that there are more serious things between men and women than going to bed. The real life seems to be the same all over the world.

One of the great tribulations of life is poverty. Not only are they poor, but they are also unemployed, and the father and the two are unemployed one after another, cut off from the source of livelihood, not only unemployed, but also unable to find a job, not only unable to find a job but also beaten by hooligans, not only beaten by hooligans, but also lost furniture, television and cars, where is the movie, this is the torture of kindness. Fortunately, the heroine is a brave and strong person, and she took the knife from the hands of the alcoholic chef and began to show this quality of facing difficulties. In the face of repeated hopes and blows, do not be discouraged. When she finally opened the hotel, she was timid, "What if I lost", because what I lost was not only the hope of her husband and wife, but also the family property of her friends and another blow to her friends. No one came to the hotel, and the collective eager anxious eyes pushed the emotions up, at this time I thought that if the director once again let these lovely and kind people unlucky, I would not watch his movie. Unsurprisingly, the hotel was a great success, and the heroine and her friends lived a stable and happy life. The end of the shot is the husband and wife holding the dog, looking up at the floating clouds in the sky, the sun shines on the hair, a trace of golden light, a pleasant sip of eye smoke, the world is like a floating cloud, and it is done and cherished.
Aki's film, basically no children, the boy in Le Havre, looks at least fourteen or more, because the child is lively every day, easy to dilute this cold and slow atmosphere, this atmosphere is a simple and calm dialogue, convergent body language, the background object is static, the soothing and unchanging camera rhythm, carefully arranged scenes, condensed tones are created, in order to maintain this atmosphere, some extreme scenes, such as the heroine grabbing the knife, the husband is beaten, etc., are put out of the picture or directly cut off. The age of the actor is older, the actor who has worked with him regularly, many years have passed, and there is no way to get older. Little people big life, Aki's film forever theme. Suffering is so great that these little people either stubbornly face (floating clouds), or restart their lives (a man who has no past), or try to maintain a glimmer of hope (the light of twilight), or scream to return to silence (sit firmly, Tedina), or desperate confrontation (match factory women), or self-exile (sin and punishment), or help each other warmly (Le Havre), or face it with absurd cold eyes (Leningrad Cowboy March), or all kinds of charm. Each one is condensed and soothing with hot love and exquisite humor. I'm a little person myself, and I love this kind movie master.
