Admire the oil paintings of The American painter Pierce in France with oriental atmosphere

Charles Sprague Pierce (13 October 1851 – 18 May 1914) was internationally successful with his depiction of French rural life.

Born into a prominent family in Boston, he studied art in Paris, traveled to the Near East, and made his home in Overs-Sulvaz, northwest of the French capital.

In 1873 he became a student of Léon Bonnat in Paris, and after 1885 he lived in Paris and of Orphes on the banks of the Uz River.

His work ranges from Egyptian and Algerian scenes to French peasants and portraits, to decorative works, particularly the Thomas Jefferson Building at the Library of Congress in Washington.

Pierce's painting "Mourning the Newborn" is an Egyptian custom, and a couple is sad about the death of the newborn. The painter uses classical realism techniques to delicately depict characters and environmental props, from the murals painted with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and the coffin box containing the deceased, it can be seen that the painter deliberately decorated his contemporaries with ancient patterns, making it produce a mysterious ancient artistic conception.
