Native to the Mediterranean region, sage-tailed grassland is an aromatic herb with broad oval leaves, short villi, grey-green to white-green, rough or finely wrinkled, and flowers that are purple, pink, white, or red, varying from species to species. The Latin scientific name of sage salvia officinalis, Salvia is derived from the Latin salvere and salus, meaning health, happiness, prosperity, salvation. Since ancient times, Europeans have widely used sage to treat diseases, and there is an old proverb in southern France: "There is sage at home, and doctors don't have to look for it." There is an English proverb saying that if you eat sage everyday in May, you will live forever." If you eat sage every day in May, you will live forever.

In ancient Greece and Rome, sage was known as the "sacred herb" and "the grass of wisdom", symbolizing the solution to the suffering of the world's diseases, and has always been a sacred existence.

The sanctity of sage also stems from its beautiful legends.

Originally, the Virgin Mary held the newborn baby Jesus to hide from the barbaric, cruel, child-killing butcher King Herod. Passing by a village, the husband asks the villagers for help, while the indifferent villagers look at each other coldly, the husband goes to find water, the mother and son wait by the roadside, the approaching horseshoe in the distance hints that Herod's soldiers are coming, and Mary holds the child but has nowhere to hide. In a panic, Mary ran to the flower garden and asked for help from the blooming rose: "Rose, please bloom all your petals and hide us", after the rose viciously refused, Mary begged for the lilac next to her: "Lilac, lovely lilac, please unfold your body and hide this poor mother and child." Lilac shook her head and ruthlessly ignored the mother and son.

Mary came to sage, "Ah, sage, sage, please unfold your branches and hide this innocent baby and half-dead mother." Immediately, sage quickly grew lush foliage, covering the ground tightly, and the soft leaves propped up a canopy, completely hiding the mother and child.

The soldiers passed by and found nothing, and the baby in Mary's arms smiled under the soft foliage of the sage.

Mary walked out of the emerald green leaves dotted with flowers in her arms, "Thank you so much, Sage, I pray for your good deeds, and everyone will remember you from now on." ”

Since then, the rose has grown thorns, the cloves have a foul smell, and the sage has many curative effects, and is called the virgin herb, which is highly honored.

The Greeks used to drink fresh sage leaf juice to strengthen their own immunity; american Indians used to perform the "sweat house ceremony", the sage, cedar and other herbs, in the form of fumigation, it is said that whether it is a major disease, a minor illness or mental trauma, mental problems, sage-based sweat house rituals are quite effective.
