On the afternoon of June 13th, the "Where to Step on - Wang Huangsheng, Wang Yefu, Che Jianquan and Wang Shaoqiang Works Exhibition" opened in Shangrong Fine Arts. As a special exhibition of the fifth anniversary of Shangrong Fine Arts, this exhibition presents more than 20 works by Wang Huangsheng, Wang Yefu, Che Jianquan and Wang Shaoqiang with different faces and various artistic expression media, and explores how Chinese contemporary art can inherit the oriental spirit while integrating and resonating with the global creation methodology and the atmosphere of the times. The exhibition will run until August 31, 2020.

The opening scene of the exhibition
The four artists in this exhibition, Wang Huangsheng, Wang Yefu, Che Jianquan and Wang Shaoqiang, each have a variety of social roles, and in addition to their busy work, they still maintain a deep thinking about art. The creative practice of these four artists, from life and nature, individual and society, present and tradition, man and self, landscape and time and space, each focuses on and intertwines overlapping dimensions, presenting artistic exploration and practice based on the oriental spiritual system and docking the world language. At the opening ceremony, participating artist Wang Huangsheng (professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, member of the Academic Committee, doctoral supervisor; general director of the Art Museum of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts) first delivered a speech, expressing his recognition and interpretation of the theme of the exhibition. "We hope to take root in the local culture of the East, but this society really attaches importance to the history of Benshi culture is not long; on the other hand, after China's reform and opening up, it has accepted a lot of Western cultural theories and practices, and tried to dialogue and integrate with the West in art, but not many people can really enter the Western culture itself, which can't help but make people feel the rootless feeling of 'where to step', and it is this sense of rootlessness that prompts us to create." The real meaning of where to step is the philosophical process of constantly doubting ourselves and asking 'where we came from and where we are going'. ”

Artist Che Jianquan (professor of the Oil Painting Department of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, master tutor, visiting professor of CGU Graduate University in California) said: "Especially in the current special situation, a question is raised, what is art? In the past six months, due to the development of the epidemic, it has brought great impact on international finance and geopolitics, the pattern of contemporary art is also changing, many artists, philosophers and social figures have entered the deep reflection of nature, science and technology, cultural history, so the questions raised in this exhibition are very much in line with the current practical significance, that is, in the context of such a new beginning, should we move forward radically, or stop and think about history and tradition at the same time? ”

In his speech, participating artist Wang Shaoqiang (Director of the Guangdong Museum of Art, Director of the China Artists Association, and Member of the Curatorial Committee of the China Artists Association) first affirmed the role of Shangrong Art in promoting contemporary art in Guangdong, so the four artists were very excited to participate in and support the exhibition. In addition, the Guangdong Museum of Art has been promoting the development of Chinese contemporary art, and the just-concluded exhibition "In Thought: The Intellectual History and Methodology of Chinese Contemporary Art" puts forward the contemporary issues of Chinese contemporary art, which are constructed in the attributes of Oriental culture and philosophical thought.

Ms. Chang Fang, the exhibition planner and opening host, said, "If we carefully taste the context of the exhibition, it is not difficult to find that between the spirit of traditional Chinese painting and the Western language, there are many places that re-enlighten us after relative comparison. After a thousand miles of riding, we always have to go home - this exhibition hopes to take the artistic actions and practices of four artists as a case sample to help us clarify the heavy shadows on contemporary art, rethink the values and construction dimensions of contemporary art, and hope to come to us with clarity and depth. ”
