Ma Chao gained the power to unify the army, so he united with Han Sui, and allied with Yang Qiu, Li Kan, Cheng Yi, and others to jointly march into Tongguan.

Cao Cao and Han Sui and Ma Chao each led a small number of guards to leave the battle, Ma Chao was proud of himself and strong, and he planned to suddenly rush forward to capture Cao Cao alive, and Cao Cao's guards around Xu Chu glared at Ma Chao, and Ma Chao did not dare to move.

Cao Cao obeyed Jia Xu's plan and used a divisive strategy to make Ma Chao and Han Sui suspicious of each other, and finally defeated their coalition army. Ma Chao fled to the Xirong ethnic minority tribes, and Cao Cao pursued to Anding, just in time for another war in the north, leading the army back to the east.
